Aw, Gaiman, why you gotta play like that?
Neil Gaiman is scripting the James Cameron-assisted movie version of Journey to the West.

I feel really kinda queasy about this. There are no few Asian writers for whom this story came with their milk teeth, like Cinderella does to an English-speaker, and Gaiman has been...bad...about stuff relating to other cultures before. I really doubt that having been for a visit to China is enough to justify his treatment of the script.

(And let's not talk about James Cameron. Ick.)

I can enjoy Neil Gaiman's past works that have been enjoyable to me, and still find the man an incredible douchebag. I can also think he's talented but think that he's entirely unsuited to this project, given there's probably about, fuck, I dunno, a thousand or so people at least in Hollywood alone who are more knowledgeable about the subject matter and better suited for the work and DESERVE to work on a piece that is one of the most influential pieces of work to come out of their country

I'm not going to even start on the number of talented people in China who they could bring into this project.
