"That's a DUDE? EW! I Need to Bathe!"
So, over on That Guy With the Glasses MarzGurl has been reviewing the Land Before Time franchise.

Movie number 8 has a new spike tail named Tippy who looks like this.

MarzGurl is disturbed.

It starts at the 4:20-ish mark of the video. For those who don't want to click, here's a transcription.

Adult Spike Tail: Come on boys.
MarsGurl: Wait, wait, BOYS?!...That pink thing...It's a DUDE?! Ew, what the hell?! It even has this big girly eyelash thing going on that the girl LittleFoot look-alike had from a few movies back. Ugh. UGH! I think I need to bathe after this.

Luckily the comments are full of clue-bats for the most part and call her out on the offensive reaction.

My personal favourite comment is "Really MG, you watch anime; you should be very very accustomed to "dude looks like a lady" by now."

If so, then the two of us are clearly colorblind together. Because that doesn't look pink to me, either.

On the screen I'm viewing, the creature's facial skin strikes me as in the beige-to-tan range--but, taken as a makeup foundation color, it would definitely incline to the pinkish/cool rather than the golden/warm side of the aisle (his belly skin displaying the latter.)

Tippy's a Summer with some Spring inclinations.

The cynic in me wonders if the same amount of people would call out any of the male reviewers on the site if they did the same thing. I don't know why, but it seems like the stuff that the NC, Spoony, etc. get away with don't go over as well for the female reviewers. But that could just me imagining things. :/

I believe that transphobia has been called out a lot. NC did a similar thing with Airborne in which he kept ragging on how Seth Green looked, even down to changing the music from a scene to "Girls just wanna have fun", and the fen response was so big that Rob had to come down and explain the "joke" (Which tbhw, I never found funny, even after the explanation)

Personally, I can't watch the Nostalgia Critic because his jokes always come off as such casual sexism and homophobia to me. Every once in a while someone will say "oh, he reviewed [this thing you watched as a kid]!" and I'll go "huh" and check it out, and what will be in it but sodomy jokes, gendered insults, and "heheh I bet that guy is a pedophile."

It's not funny to me, and if that's being oversensitive, well.

Now that I'm a bit more awake...

The adult spike tail does say "Boys" but... how is that proof that the tan one is actually male? Most people when talking to a group of different gender individuals will default to male words. "The Boys" can even be one guy and four girls.

So.. her overreaction was even more puzzling then.

UGH MARZGIRL. I tried to watch her, I really did. She's always struck me as one of those people who thinks they're really good at analysis, but just goes on and on with obvious information. JesuOtaku is the more entertaining anime reviewer by far.

Not to mention the fact that she's pretty whiny and entitled about small details, which is...so typical of lots of younger anime fans. *waggles cane* IN MY DAY we had terrible dubbing and they couldn't even pronounce the names right AND WE WERE GRATEFUL. D:<

Yyyyyyyeah. This is why I switched over to Oancitizen and Diamanda Hagan, for their non-binary and/or non-phobic awesomeness. (Although Oancitizen soon to be debuting on TGWTG, but the guy has been a shining example of non-fail so far.)

Why would anyone even *care* all that much about the sex of an animated non-humanoid child character? This isn't even the "oh no, the hot chick I was crushing on is actually a dude! Ow, my heterosexuality!" setup (which is pretty problematic in its own right.)
