She was doing an episode about token female characters in cartoons, and she talked about Gargoyles and said not only was Elisa a token female character, she was also a token minority (I don't remember the specific wording, if it was person of colour or what). It bothered the hell out of my because not only was she totally cool, Elisa DID STUFF. She had a job that probably wouldn't have been filled by her demographic a lot and did it WELL. Her friendship/romance with Goliath wasn't the fill of her world, but it was a part of it, just like kicking ass. ...also, Elisa's heritage comes with a cool story if you do a touch of research (which basically no one on that site ever does, because it would ruin their jokes that play on base ignorance, but anyway): Elisa was originally planned to be Hispanic, but when they got her voice actress (who was half-Nigerian and half-Native American), they changed her heritage to match, and later on talked about it (I believe they address it when they talk about Elisa's family and the episodes with Talon). Hell, Demona and Fox were also super cool. If she'd wanted to complain about Angela, I'd have been down for that, since *she* felt like a Mary Sue character I'd have inserted into the series when I was 12-13. I don't even recall if she talked about Demona and Fox. I liked Anastasia too. Post a comment in response: |
