I've been wondering if I should try Madoka out since I'm a HUGE RIDICULOUS FLAILING fan of another dark magical girl show (Revolutionary Girl Utena), but its pedigree gives me pause...

Basically, I've hated absolutely everything I've ever seen by its director, Akiyuki Shinbo (for context, these would be Bakemonogatari, Pani Poni Dash, Maria Holic and Moon Phase). I dropped each of these series at various points, because they triggered rage in one way or another.

I think the biggest issue keeping me from Madoka is, frankly, my fear that it's basically the perfect place for Shinbo to indulge in his tendency towards loli fanservice. Is my fear unfounded? Because if so, I'm intrigued by its premise.
