Re: also ignoring the assbag of a wanker
I was a bit iffy on the art at first but I'm really glad I watched it anyway. The whole thing with Madoka is it covers itself in all the trappings of cute magical girl show -- moe character designs, peppy OP theme with smiling girls, the whole bit -- and then around episode three takes a sharp swerve for the dark and twisted and never looks back. In fact by now I actually kind of like the moe art just because I think it makes what's happening onscreen seem that much more screwed-up. (And the characters themselves aren't really typical moe -- there's no "cute" clumsiness or helplessness, and no one acts cute just for the sake of acting cute. The series does a really good job of making the girls characters instead of moe stereotypes.)
