Tolerate my (friends) intolerance. So. bad_rpers_suck. I know, I know. Fish, barrel. Hives of scum and villainy. Fair warning; I am in the BRPS threads, making a couple of choice comments, but I decided to go with unfunny_fandom over i_wank due to... Well. Unfunny. wolfwonderess is not happy. Cruising for RP, she comes upon a RPG Site with some... very special rules. ( Let me explain...
No, there is to much. Let me sum up. (Homophobia and racism ahoy!) )I'm not going to troll the wank. I'm not going to go on their site, or RPG-D, or deviantart and yell at them. I am going to make sure that my friends and acquaintances stay away, though. Current Mood: Boggled | | Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 | 1:23 pm [tiye]

Multiple interpretations of canon? In MY fandom? Warnings for homophobia with a side of sexism and probably various other -isms that I'm not entirely sure I have a name for! Also, massive amounts of jaw-droppingly over-the-top condescension. Alexds1 is a fan of original recipe Sherlock Holmes, which is the only version that matters! Alexds1 has a problem with adaptations of literary works. And people who enjoy those adaptations. And people who view those adaptations as legitimate works in their own right. And people whose interpretations of creative works differ from Alexds1's. But Alexds1 especially has a problem with anyone who dares to speculate about Sherlock Holmes's sexuality, which is spelled out totally unambiguously in the original source material! It doesn't take long for the pwnage to begin. Current Mood: Gobsmacked | | Wednesday, December 28th, 2011 | 11:33 am [miraba]

Cherik disability wank TW: ableism and related fail. Edit: And slurs being flung around. This has been posted for a friend of a friend who wishes to remain anonymous. Leandralocke is a mod of ONTD_pinto and has been banning people from her journal (status of banning people from the comm unknown), so I offered to post it for her. As of when I found out about this, everything was unlocked. To the wank! ( Read more... ) | | Thursday, December 8th, 2011 | 12:13 am [misachan]

Stay classy, AGA! (Warning: this wank may require an immediate infusion of baby animals wearing people clothes. This is small but virulent. Thanks to the wank_report nonnys.) Torchwood fans have been wondering why there hasn't been any news on a new season; theories ranged from the partnership between Starz and BBC falling through to writer to producer Russell T. Davies shifting his attention to a new series entirely. Even the actors didn't seem to know what was going on. Yesterday the story broke about why the season has been delayed, and it's for one of the worst possible reasons: RTD's partner has been diagnosed with brain cancer and he's taking time off to take care of him. The Anti-Gwen Alliance (you may remember them from such wanks as "let's wear character bashing shirts to a con the actress playing the character is attending!" (original post now gone; wank report here, pretty wanky on its own, partial screencap here, because the internet never forgets) handles the news with their usual grace and tact. Some, um..."highlights:" I'm sorry for the poor guy who has cancer (and the misfortune to love RTD) but this can't be the reason why Starz does not continue.I feel for anyone in the other guys position, especially as he now appears to be having to be nursed by Toad of Toad Hall, but I feel NO sympathy, whatsoever, for RTD. He is clutching at straws- no-one has picked up on his god awful "cucumber" thing so he needs an excuse to get back over here and mess with our TV again. I just hope to god that the BBC has the sense to barricade the doors and pretend they aren't home when he calls.....And once again somebody else gets blamed for RTDs fail. No fans to blame left Crusty? The terrible boyfriend needs to step in as the goat? That's low.I'm going to go write some fluff now. Or look at puppies. Maybe write about my OTP playing with puppies. | | Sunday, November 13th, 2011 | 6:27 pm [qem_chibati]

Professional fandom Apologies for the lack of backstory links, I'm typing this from a phone. I think that's the only comment I've made in what I'm linking other than maybe something about php and ruby. Otw (organization for transformative works) elections are happening right now, and boy is it wanky. It was going to be unfunny, as you might imagine when three of the six candidates mention volunteer burn out ( http://facetofcathy.dreamwidth.org/229943.html ) in their candidate statements and one candidate Naomi Novik, founding member says she hasn't noticed. Well if she hasn't noticed it can't be true right? http://renay.dreamwidth.org/236955.htmlOh. Oh dear. Add in that Sanders the candidate of colour has kept her main fandom journal for elections, and has a similar platform to the others, is told that she is too angry and has her friends getting anon comments telling them to tell her to watch her tone. Then shit blows up when they fuck up the skins for "accessibility" when the new default is grey on grey and lots of red. http://branchandroot.dreamwidth.org/1255716.html#commentsApparently this was rushed to get the archive ready for Yuletide. Only Yuletide isn't a otw project. http://fail-fandomanon.livejournal.com/22095.html?thread=99563087#t99563087But what really has me gobsmacked is this, from: copracat Let me make sure I have this correctly: The chair of the board has been told by someone/s to stop working on a strategic plan for the organisation because she doesn't have the authority to do so. I'm going to make a cup of tea now. ----- general-jinjur (the chair in question) ( to be more accurate )http://copracat.dreamwidth.org/596794.html?thread=2267962#cmt2267962 | | Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 | 10:33 pm [sandglass]

What the eff, people. [Trigger warning for self-injury, homophobia, misogyny on ALL links, especially the ones hosted on Blizzard's sites] Blizzard recently had their yearly convention for their three franchises, Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. Fans from all over the globe come to see it, and tickets usually sell out within hours (if not faster) of tickets going on sale. Many Blizzard employees have praised it for being a family event, but I've never been so I don't know how generally family friendly it is. This year, their closing ceremony included a video from the lead singer of Cannibal Corpse, bashing alliance players in sexist and homophobic terms. Here is the censored version they played, and here are the uncensored comments. Megabitch provides the comments for those who don't want to watch Youtube. Some of their employees replied to fan comments, although they mostly/only focused on the "Blizzard hates the Alliance!" complaints. Bashiok with a fauxpology, Zarhym with "It was just a joke!" WoW_Ladies and Dear_Gnome both have mostly safe discussions but there are trolls and bigots. The WoW boards are not so safe, 1, 2, 3, 4 and oh god, so many more. On a side note that could really get its own post but I have homework to stop putting off, a lesbian WoW player asked about Blizzard's intentions to have any canon gay characters and then posted about it and made a follow up. Her girlfriend also makes a post. Naturally, the whole thing triggered a lot of hate across the forums. ETA: Worldofwarcraft apparently wants everyone to know that just because you're not on the WoW forums, you can still get plenty of douchery! ETA2: Level 90 Elite Tauren Chieftan, the band made up of Blizz employees, has put out an apology. Except it's not addressing the homophobia at all, and could easily be about just the alliance players. ETA3: Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard, put out an actual apology. | | Thursday, October 20th, 2011 | 7:54 am [j_crew_guy]

"Gay comics characters don't look gay enough!" This has been making the fandom rounds, but I haven't seen it here yet, so here goes: Brett Booth and Scott Lobdell, the team behind the relaunch of Teen Titans, have decided to add a new gay character to the team. Cool, right? Unfortunately, Booth's comments on the reasoning behind this decision are somewhat less cool. A few choice quotes: I’ve seen all the other gay superheroes out there, Ok maybe not all. They look just like regular heterosexuals, they act like regular heterosexuals, they just happen to have sex with people of their own gender, under the covers and in the dark. Sure you might get a kiss on a page, but that’s all (an no we won’t be doing any sex scenes in TT, get your minds OUT of the gutters
We wanted to show an interesting character who’s homosexuality is part of him, not something that’s hidden. [...] As for the children.. Most simply don’t know or don’t care. It’s not like Migg’s is going to be doing a one man gay pride parade. I don’t think we even mention that he’s gay, you see him, you know it, no need to harp on about it. He’s just a happy fun loving guy! He won’t be wearing anything that I haven’t seen at Walmart. Well maybe Target;)Which (a) has the unpleasant implication that gay characters (and indeed actual gay people) are Not Gay Enough unless they fit certain stereotypes and (b) leads to concerns that the character in question may be written as a sort of sexless Gay Best Friend type who you "know" is gay not because he expresses any interest in men, but because he's effeminate. Fun! This RPG.net thread has a good discussion of it (turning partway into a discussion of comics characters who were conceived as queer vs. ones that were retconned to be, but that's interesting too!); it's also been posted on inclusive_geeks on LJ. (Those are the only places I've seen it, but if anyone has more links, by all means let me know!) | | Wednesday, September 21st, 2011 | 12:38 pm [chienne]

Oh, GameStop. In sum: The new PC game Deus Ex: Human Revolution comes with a coupon, worth $50, to download a copy of the same game from the new game streaming service OnLive. Except at GameStop, that is. See, GameStop employees were instructed by corporate to open the packages, remove and discard the coupons, and re-seal them and sell them as new. They also apparently did not intend to tell their customers about this fact until many people took their games home and found no coupon. GameStop's higher-ups have admitted the truth of this and said it's because OnLive is a competitor, and they did not want to endorse the service without a formal partnership. ETA: cmdr_zoom pointed out that there is some unfunny in the comments of the second Kotaku link; I didn't look at the ones on that particular article myself, so please tread carefully. TechCrunch blog postKotaku blog post #1( Kotaku blog post #1 text )GameStop has responded by ordering stores to pull their remaining copies of the game pending a recall, in cooperation with SquareEnix. ETA 2: GameStop is now trying to make up for their flub by (Joystiq link) offering people who purchased DeusEx a $50 gift card and a coupon to buy two used games and get one free if they bring in their receipt and a copy of an e-mail sent to shafted customers. | | Thursday, August 18th, 2011 | 12:55 am [pyratejenni]

Batgirl at the SDCC I'm surprised nobody's posted about this one yet. San Diego Comic Con happened a couple of weeks back, and of course people from DC comics were talking about their series and trying to drum up support for the universe-wide reboot that will be happening next month. As you'd probably guess, given that they're wiping out the decades long histories of many beloved characters, a lot of people are unhappy with them for a lot of reasons, but the events of this post are focused on one specific issue; people have been noticing that a lot of women seem to be vanishing as part of the reboot. Not just in the pages of the comics, but in real life as well. Women have gone from making up 12% of their creator base (not exactly a great number to begin with) to under 2%. Which'd be three, total. ( This got pretty long, so you'll find most of the unfunny beneath the cut ) | | Friday, July 29th, 2011 | 4:47 pm [pyratejenni]

Heartbreak & Heroines Kynn created a RPG called Heartbreak & Heroines, and used Kickstarter to get $3000 in funding in 48 hours. Over on LJ, Jack posted his response to his ex's success, in two minds because he's glad someone he knows did something cool, Kynn raped him. A couple days later, alexandraerin posts as well, expressing dismay at Kynn's behavior. Jack posts Tweets from Kynn and later, emails,. At some point, the Kickstart for the RPG is canceled. Some responses are laudable. Others, not so much. ETA: Kynn tried to get a new name on RPG post-ban.ETA2: Elf has a post about it.ETA3: Kynn denies the rape happened. | | Monday, July 11th, 2011 | 8:31 am [sepiamagpie]

"Ahh, everyone is allowed their opinion except Christians. Typical." - Musiclover84 Unfortunately my posting this outs me as a watcher of Daytime Soap Operas. But this was too rage inducing to keep quiet. So the other day I posted in the Days of Our Lives LJ comm that they've announced an impending gay storyline. Everyone in the comm seems happy or at least they don't care because really, this shouldn't be news right? Musiclover84 however is not happy and he posts in my post, but I thought nothing of it. He has since deleted his post but hey, Gmail is like a Sarrlacc and deletes things slowly. Gays of Our Lives? No thanks.
Seems like the gay lifestyle has taken over all tv shows and movies. It's always the same thing too. Gay guy/gal keeps homosexual feelings a secret then eventually find out that hey, it's okay to be gay! *Gag*
Anyway, I've been in this group a long time (been watching Days for nearly 20 years) and this is the end for me. Take care everyone! So today, I go to the comm and see a mod post. Maintainer/Mod Update
Hi All,
I haven't needed to moderate this community in years due to people's ability to be respectful and polite. However, it seems people are overreacting to the news of the upcoming gay storyline. Please remember, you are entitled to express your opinions as long as it doesn't offend other people and some these posts are going over the top. Please keep the criticism of the show in the bounds of good taste. Musiclover returns. Scrolling back in the comm I see that people are expressing their enthusiasm about the new plot but of course, Musiclover breaks in to pee on everyone's good time. Oh BS, like you really want to watch a show that takes away from the couples that have been around forever. I am offended that you are okay with taking this show in a direction away from it's 45 year consistency. Some of us have been watching this for a long duration of that time and the fact that newer viewers are coming through here & trying to ruin this show, greatly offends me.Riiiiight, because Will and Gabby and Abby and Chad have been couples forever. *Rolls eyes* | | Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 | 11:12 am [ladyrogue]

Jackass is a fandom, right? So obviously we all know that Ryan Dunn from "Jackass" was killed in a horrible car crash early yesterday morning. And many family members, friends, and fans are in mourning right now. But then Roger Ebert had to speak up. Needless to say, many are pissed at his insensitivity. Sadly, I kind of figured something like this was going to happen considering the stunts "Jackass" is known for (and we all remember the "Steve Irwin had it coming" wank), but still... that doesn't excuse Ebert's words at all. Beware the comments in the MSN article, they are just as bad as Ebert's original tweet. ETA: I would normally agree with the comments here as well, except that the police haven't actually confirmed that he was drunk. If it turns out that that's what happened, that's one thing. But... I'd rather wait to find out the results before I agree with one side or the other. ETA 2: Apparently Ebert has apologized to Dunn's family and friends saying he tweeted too soon.
