Heartbreak & Heroines Kynn created a RPG called Heartbreak & Heroines, and used Kickstarter to get $3000 in funding in 48 hours. Over on LJ, Jack posted his response to his ex's success, in two minds because he's glad someone he knows did something cool, Kynn raped him. A couple days later, alexandraerin posts as well, expressing dismay at Kynn's behavior. Jack posts Tweets from Kynn and later, emails,. At some point, the Kickstart for the RPG is canceled. Some responses are laudable. Others, not so much. ETA: Kynn tried to get a new name on RPG post-ban.ETA2: Elf has a post about it.ETA3: Kynn denies the rape happened. | | Monday, July 11th, 2011 | 8:31 am [sepiamagpie]

"Ahh, everyone is allowed their opinion except Christians. Typical." - Musiclover84 Unfortunately my posting this outs me as a watcher of Daytime Soap Operas. But this was too rage inducing to keep quiet. So the other day I posted in the Days of Our Lives LJ comm that they've announced an impending gay storyline. Everyone in the comm seems happy or at least they don't care because really, this shouldn't be news right? Musiclover84 however is not happy and he posts in my post, but I thought nothing of it. He has since deleted his post but hey, Gmail is like a Sarrlacc and deletes things slowly. Gays of Our Lives? No thanks.
Seems like the gay lifestyle has taken over all tv shows and movies. It's always the same thing too. Gay guy/gal keeps homosexual feelings a secret then eventually find out that hey, it's okay to be gay! *Gag*
Anyway, I've been in this group a long time (been watching Days for nearly 20 years) and this is the end for me. Take care everyone! So today, I go to the comm and see a mod post. Maintainer/Mod Update
Hi All,
I haven't needed to moderate this community in years due to people's ability to be respectful and polite. However, it seems people are overreacting to the news of the upcoming gay storyline. Please remember, you are entitled to express your opinions as long as it doesn't offend other people and some these posts are going over the top. Please keep the criticism of the show in the bounds of good taste. Musiclover returns. Scrolling back in the comm I see that people are expressing their enthusiasm about the new plot but of course, Musiclover breaks in to pee on everyone's good time. Oh BS, like you really want to watch a show that takes away from the couples that have been around forever. I am offended that you are okay with taking this show in a direction away from it's 45 year consistency. Some of us have been watching this for a long duration of that time and the fact that newer viewers are coming through here & trying to ruin this show, greatly offends me.Riiiiight, because Will and Gabby and Abby and Chad have been couples forever. *Rolls eyes* | | Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 | 11:12 am [ladyrogue]

Jackass is a fandom, right? So obviously we all know that Ryan Dunn from "Jackass" was killed in a horrible car crash early yesterday morning. And many family members, friends, and fans are in mourning right now. But then Roger Ebert had to speak up. Needless to say, many are pissed at his insensitivity. Sadly, I kind of figured something like this was going to happen considering the stunts "Jackass" is known for (and we all remember the "Steve Irwin had it coming" wank), but still... that doesn't excuse Ebert's words at all. Beware the comments in the MSN article, they are just as bad as Ebert's original tweet. ETA: I would normally agree with the comments here as well, except that the police haven't actually confirmed that he was drunk. If it turns out that that's what happened, that's one thing. But... I'd rather wait to find out the results before I agree with one side or the other. ETA 2: Apparently Ebert has apologized to Dunn's family and friends saying he tweeted too soon. Older wank, but still tasty. Misogyny wrapped in status quo and covered with a layer of fully missing the point, as recovered from the back of the wank_report refrigerator. ( Just go play Gor already. ) | | Friday, June 3rd, 2011 | 8:18 pm [ladyofviolets]

Amazon pulls yaoi from Kindle store Robot 6 posts this story: Amazon pulls yaoi from Kindle storeExcerpts:
Yaoi manga is a niche genre, but like all niche genres, it has a devoted following. Yaoi readers gobble up the books like romance fans read Harlequin novels, which is not surprising as they are basically the same thing, except that yaoi 1) is manga, 2) is a love story between two men, and 3) often includes lots of sex.
**********
Recently Amazon has become more strict in enforcing their content requirements for ebooks. Several DMP books that have been available online since 2009 are getting the axe, beginning with our 801 Media titles like Weekend Lovers and King of Debt. However, in the last few days the issue has spread to the June imprint by Amazon’s refusal of The Selfish Demon King, and the removal of The Color of Love from the Kindle store.
**************
....all the reviews I checked described the book as more sweet than sexy, which raises the question: If this story had been about a man and a woman, would it have been removed from the store?
A quick search suggests that the answer is “no.” Titles currently available on Kindle include Christmas Creampie, a graphic novel in which “horny Whoreville hussies show a frustrated dildo shop owner the true meaning of Christmas,” and Little Lorna in Resort Sports (I’m not even going to link to this one), in which Little Lorna, who is spunky, sexy, but “not too bright,” goes on vacation to Mexico with her Uncle Bob; “nudity, spanking, and sexy humor” result.
So apparently a sweet love story between two men is unacceptable, but an orgy in a dildo shop is OK.Thanks to crabby_lioness for posting this over at noscans_daily | | Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 | 2:19 am [bcaluroso]

ED Goes Down, Permanently. An ensuing shitstorm also goes down. This is slightly old news, but I don't see it having been posted anywhere, so I'm going to go ahead. I hope ED counts as fandom - it did not seem to be in line with the usual topics of Unfunny Business. I'll be happy to move it if this proves not to be the case. So, it seems that Encyclopedia Dramatica, unofficial wiki of 4chan, has disappeared. It now redirects to OhInternet, a sanitized version of ED (which seems a bit like having a cleaned-up pile of shit.) Says Geeko System:Last night, visitors to Dramatica’s home page found themselves automatically redirected to a new site called OhInternet which appeared to have more in common with the new, slicker generation of Internet culture trackers than with the unvarnished, offensive Dramatica of old. Some fans of Dramatica wondered if this was an elaborate troll or an April Fool’s joke; visiting Dramatica’s old IP address, 208.99.87.133, gave a message that was interpreted by some to mean that Dramatica was only temporarily offline. But the redirect is permanent, Encyclopedia Dramatica founder and current OhInternet primary contributor Sherrod DeGrippo told me by email, and OhInternet is here to stay.
Encyclopedia Dramatica is no more.EDIT: Warning for sexist, racist, NSFW language, graphic threats, privilege, misogyny . . . you know what, if there is any type of offensive text that you do not wish to read, I suggest you not visit this article. There's . . . there's something for everyone, there really is.( And then the Internet expoded. ) | | Thursday, April 21st, 2011 | 3:50 pm [h_landless]

Yes i would blame the jew if she just left her friend cause he/she was/is a part of the Hitleryouth! Once there was a fan called RedPassion who liked to draw her Mary Sue Emily with Louis XVI. Later she moved to HP fandom and started drawing Emily with Snape. Recently she made a comic about Snape, Emily Sue and Lily and it was full of sexism and stupidity. Here are some comments from RedPassion herself and the people who liked her comic: “By the way I don’t think Lily was an egoistic person. Naive, yes. Incomplete character, yes. Boring, totally yes. BTW she is just a character I think poorly of .”
“She always used him for help at school our before to get details about the wizard world and most of all to married potter without to give a thought what could happened to Severus”
“I mean, how can Snape forsake his housemates and Dark magic when HE IS SURROUNDED BY THEM ALMOST 24/7?!”
“I’m sick and tired of all the fanart where Lily ‘forgives’ Severus. It should be the other way ‘round.”
“Some people are blinded by her protection of Harry and can’t find a fault in her”
“Lily can also be read as a gold-digger. By this view she would have been delighted to hear Severus say that one forbidden word. Here was just the excuse she needed to move up in the world.”
“The best thing that resulted out of Lily was the complexity of Snape because of all the heartache. If I were Lily, I wouldn’t have deserted my best friend just because he called me a name. After all, friends forgive each other, right?”
“He deserves way better than some childhood sweetheart who ditched him because he said one word. (Emily is making me sssooooo jealous, though XD) I am so tired of seeing SnapexLily fanart. She’s dead, and he’s on the market.”
“Lily was a bitch *nodnod* Running off with the people who tormented her best friend. Such a fickle woman -.-“Also look at this gem of a conversation: ladysugarquill
Well, Lily and Snape didn't fight because of one nickname. They fought because Lily got fed up Snape was into the Dark Arts and wanted to be a Death Eater (that is, people who think it's fun to torture and murder others because they're muggleborn - just like Lily). She spent 5 years trying to convince him not to become a MURDERER, but he was so scared of not belonging that he wouldn't listen.
And he didn't slip, he threw a racist insult to her face. Would you blame a jew girl for not staying friends with a member of the Hitler Youth? Knowing that he, or his friends, could kill her and her family tomorrow, just because she dared to be born from certain people?
RedPassion
I hold it like ~DoomOverlord. I won´t discuss this further, cause i would just repeat myself again and again. And i don´t think we both would chance or opinions on it. :/
I just can say that i´m half german and half british and i that don´t care of that when my friends needs me. No matter in what. Most of all when such a sad and bad background happened in their life like Snape has! Cause in that case it was Lily who felt ashamed for Severus infront of her friends even if actually Severus had "much more reasons" for it when we look at this from the point of e.g the different houses... Its true that you shouldn´t care from where someone came ect. And yes i would blame the jew if she just left her friend cause he/she was/is a part of the Hitleryouth! As said i´m am german and i was growing up in germany and not everybody there back in days where a Nazi!! Was Bad or something like that. E.g Sophie Scholl from the resistance movement the white rose "Weisse Rose" was there and she was pleased with it cause she could spend time with others girls in her age and she lost her life later cause she was executed cause she fought together with her brother and his friends against Hilter and for the jews and a free Germany! But even she was in the Hitleryouth she never was against jews! Hans Scholl also was in the Hitleryouth as well and he gave e.g his iron ration and cigarettes to a jewish girl even it was forbidden and he already worn his uniform and was a soldier of Hitler in that way... and he also would never have killed a jew! | | Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 | 10:12 pm [dottiness] |
Right, so, Ginia Bellafante did a terrible, sexist, uninformed review of HBO's adaptation of Game of Thrones including statements about how it was boy fiction, the sex and intrigue was only in there as a bone thrown to women viewers, and she'd never met a woman who would rather read "The Hobbit" than a piece of literary fiction. Apparently she got hundreds of angry emails, hundreds of angry tweets, and "three supportive notes from people she is personally considering adopting." So what lesson does she take from all of this? "Pull up a throne and let's talk" includes such well-written responses as this: "As I wrote in the review, I realize that there are women who love fantasy, but I don’t know any and that is the truth: I don’t know any."
"But they have also sent long and vitriolic attacks claiming that, in my negativity, I made it clear that I had no idea what I was talking about. I appreciate the economy of those readers who began and ended their comments: “You are a complete idiot.” Phrases like that constituted a whole subgenre of the online response."Lots of comments on both sides of the issue, but, unsurprisingly, a tremendously large number calling her out on her excuse for saying no woman would ever want to read fantasy. I didn't know where this should go, so I stuck with the old "if you aren't sure, put it in UFB!" rule. The last post about this was in fandom_lounge, but I think her continuing to dig the hole deeper probably belongs elsewhere. | | Monday, April 18th, 2011 | 12:21 pm [staroverthebay]

Is the use of "derpy" ableist? Disclaimer: I initially planned to post this in equestria since it's largely about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic but I changed my mind and chose to post here because while this discusses primarily MLP:FiM, the issues under discussion are not only unfunny and potentially rage-inducing, it's also something that could be applied to almost any fandom. If I have erred and this belongs in equestria, then I will move it over there, but due to the unfunny issues involved, and the fact that this could be applied to nearly any fandom, I chose to go with the F_W rule of thumb: "When in doubt, UFB" ( A little background on the character in question, for those who don't watch the show )So, I was browsing Tumblr the other night, and came across an unusually vitriolic (and overly-generalizing, I think) comment by a user named "tumblrvigilante" decrying the name "Derpy Hooves" and the entire internet "derp" meme. ( tumblrvigilante's rant )In other words, tumblrvigilante believes that the use of the word "derp" is ableism, and calling the pony "Derpy Hooves" is tantamount to making fun of her unusual appearance. The owner of the tumblr blog the comment was posted on was rather confused and taken aback by the comment, and posted a long response on her personal tumblr blog, hayjulay. Later, tumblrvigilante replies with his or her own long response, further insisting that the use of the word "derp" is ableist and harmful, regardless of intent. hayjulay replies again, and subsequently the point is presumably dropped by both sides. Both sides have made valid points (as well as some less-convincing points) in argument for or against the "derp meme" being ableist, and it appears that they have come to the "agree to disagree" conclusion. This exchange between tumblrvigilante and hayjulay has been on my mind since I read it, and I briefly discussed the topic with a few friends. However, I'm curious to know what everyone here at unfunny_fandom thinks. Is the whole "derp" meme an ableist slur, making fun of someone who is less fortunate or something that can't be controlled? Is the nickname "Derpy Hooves" actually ableism in disguise? Or is it all effectively a mountain made from a molehill? | | Saturday, April 16th, 2011 | 11:04 am [platedlizard]

Screw The Quake Victims, Give Me My Anime. Admission up front: I'm in here a couple of times as sevendials. I stopped posting before I wrote this up and will not be saying any more. Puella Magi Madoka Magica is one of the currently-airing shows in the winter anime season. It's a deconstruction of the Magical Girl concept, created by Gen Urobuchi and Studio SHAFT. Ten episodes of the projected twelve-episode run have been shown so far, and it's pretty obvious that however bad things already look for Madoka and her friends, they were only going to get worse. It's been on hiatus since the Tohoku earthquake, for what many fans feel to be obvious reasons. madokamagica is a Livejournal community that discusses aspects of the episodes, shares icons and fanmixes. It's usually fairly low-pressure, and has been pretty quiet since the show went on hiatus. That all changes when doctorcasey makes a community post about the show's status, suggesting that the last two episodes may not be screened at all out of sensitivity to the victims of the quake. First red flag: the tone of the initial post was rather entitled, but it appears to be a direct quote from another message board so it was easy to assume he was simply spreading the word. Things remain reasonable until people start to post in support of the decision. Whereupon it becomes obvious doctorcasey made the post because he disapproves of this kind of "political correctness" and was hoping the rest of the community would agree with him. What. The. Hell. ETA: doctorcasey has left the building. Really! He's going right now! ETA 2: doctorcasey has been in contact with me via Livejournal messaging, and has requested that I post the following apology here on his behalf. Everything below the cut is him: ( And cut. ) | | Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 | 1:58 pm [h_landless]
