Teacher Jim Piculas does a magic trick where a toothpick disappears and then reappears.

Piculas said he then got a call from the supervisor of teachers, saying he'd been accused of wizardry.

Uhhh...

Okay I thought of something more to say.

With that kinda reaction, you'd think he was conjuring fucking fireballs in the middle of class.

"LOL Sorry I burned off all your hair with that fireball Little Jimmy! I'm still taking my advanced wizardry classes."

I mean, really.... Wizardry...

There isn't enough WTFery in the world for this.

It's a non-renewable resource, people! Soon, there won't be enough WTFery to fulfill our obviously-increasing need to shriek WTF at patent absurdity.

Can't we just take Stephen Colbert's advice and castrate America by cutting off Florida?

Can anyone come up with some sort of logical reasoning for this? It seems to me that they either got someone fired for a simple trick anyone could learn, or they actually thought it was witchcraft, and both are so WTF I can't comprehend it.

I should point out that the only one saying he was fired for 'wizardry' is him. The school district has a list of reasons, and he latched on to one to make himself look like the poor wounded victim.

It might help if I provided a little context, since I live in the general part of Florida where this happened. In the last couple of years there has been a rash of teacher-student sex cases. One county declared they would have annual seminars to remind teachers of 'proper ethics'. (Excuse me, but is "don't fuck the students" really that difficult a concept?) There have been lots of complaints of schools spending more time on special programs than actual course work - as a friend of mine put it, "My kid can quote Al Gore but he doesn't know what mitosis is."

So anyway, there has been lots of public outcry for the schools to actual spend some time educating children instead of warehousing them or substituting them for the singles scene. In that kind of atmosphere, a student teacher who spends his time goofing off is not going to go over well. And if he was spending too much time socializing with some of the students, he was cooked, because the school systems around here are paranoid as hell about having more cases in the news.

To give you an idea, last week's new case was a teacher fired and arrested after taking a 16yo girl on a series of "field trips" to the zoo, the beach, the mall... just her and him. With predictable results.

ZOMG someone tried to make education entertaining! That might lead to kids paying attention in class, and THAT could lead to smartass kids who think they are too good for minimum wage! Thank god they fired that teacher.
