Update on the Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show!
Sorry for the new post, but this makes me happy now... For the most part, of course :3

NOW CARL'S JR/HARDEES AND VERIZON ARE OUT AS SPONSORS TOO!!

For easy Tweeting copypasta: RT @glaad New blog post: UPDATE: Verizon and Carl's Jr Pull KRXQ Advertising http://glaadblog.org/2009/06/05/verizoncarl/

FROM HERE (via here, thank you), SOME QUOTES FROM THE SHOW IN RESPONSE TO THE OUTRAGE PEOPLE HAVE VOICED:

"That's what makes this country great," Rossi said in defense of Willams and States. "The minute we start telling Arnie he can't say that, then somebody's going to tell me I can't defend transgender people."

"You guys imply that all you have to do is...whack my non-existant child with a shoe if he goes clopping around the house in high heels," commented a listener who identified herself as a male-to-female transgender who previously had served in the US armed forces for 22 years. "Don't you think that all the abuse that I took in school would have changed that basic nature in me?"

"Thank you for your service, but let me just say this right now," quipped an angered States. "You fought (in the armed forces) for nothing! With the opinions that you have right there, you fought for absolutely nothing!"

They say it was a joke, but obviously it wasn't. I've made a similar public post on my LJ asking people to link and comment with their own public posts. Please help me collect links to LJ/DW/IJ/JF accounts concerning this matter. But I don't think it's all too necessary because YAY! People are really listening! WOO! But if you want to, please do. Share, link, help!

Previous post with links, emails contacts and more.

AND NOW... WELLS FARGO, TOO! YESSSSSSS.

AND THERE GOES NISSAN TOO!

Contact the remaining sponsors!

the station's page of sponsors is still accessible via Google cache! ILU TOO, INTERNET!

WEEKEND UPDATE!

Two more HUGE sponsors, McDonald's and AT&T are out! AND FROM THAT POST: The pressure seems to have caused a stir at the radio station. Today at 5:28pm EST, we received an email from the General Manager promising a phone call this Monday with a possible resolution.

I'll be listening on Monday to find out! (currently Saturday morning they're playing a Best of The Rob, Arnie & Dawn Show).

Issendai has an advertiser roll call here, thanks! ETA on that: some aren't accurate, trying to sort things out.

If you want to e-mail Entercom:
imfox@krxq.com jgeary@entercom.com, kwong@entercom.com, dfield@entercom.com, jboyle@entercom.com, patmartin@krxq.com, jfield@entercom.com, sfisher@entercom.com, jgordon@entercom.com, wkramer@entercom.com, nmccormack@entercom.com, bpasha@entercom.com

Here's a good article on the show detailing some incidents in the past like this</a>.

I'll definitely link this around.

Also, there's no way that comment was a joke. If it was, it was in extremely bad taste aside from being ridiculously unfunny. He should (but will never be) ashamed of himself.

My lj post is here. And dreamwidth for those who prefer to comment there.

Also, a group that may be of interest is TrueChild. They're for everything that Rob Williams and Arnie States are against: that children should be allowed to be themselves, with crushing pressure to conform to rigid gender roles.

From their website:

TrueChild imagines a world where boys and girls are free from stereotypes so they can learn, grow, and reach their full potential.

True Child is a the leading national organization helping all children – boys and girls – break through stereotypes so they can be true to themselves and reach their full potential.

Wow, their <a href="http://glaadblog.org/2009/06/04/krxq-radio-hosts-rob-and-arnie-sweep-namecalling-under-the-rug/</a>explanation</a> is total bullshit. Har har, throwing shoes at kids and telling parents that sometimes you just have to tell your kids that they're evil and wrong is sooo funny. Now I think I'm going to get some Chipotle.

You know, there are lots of words here but all I see is "BAWWWWW WE GOT CALLED ON OUR SHIT AND IT HURTS IN MY BUTT."

No, sweetie, nobody is ZOMGOPPRESSING him, they're saying "you can say that kind of shit all you want, but we're under no obligation to listen to or sponsor it, thanks."

OK, I can't bear to listen to any of the audio/video posted so far since I know it will make me want to punch things (preferrably Rob and Arnie) so I'll admit ignorance... but what do you all make of the third cohost, Dawn? GLAAD seemed to be pretty impressed with her attempts to defend transsexuals, but I remember someone else here commenting that she tended to be pretty ineffectual. And now she's defending her coworkers... but at the same time, though, she's not agreeing with them but more saying, "I disagree with them but defend their right to say it," which is at least a bit less PHAIL than it could have easily been.

I dunno, I'm just not sure what to make of her in all this, and I'm curious... I guess I'm just wondering if I can glomp onto her for a bit of win and "LOOK, A DECENT HUMAN BEING who will soon have the show to herself" or whether the consensus is that she just fails less. :\

What does that even mean? I've been puzzling it over, and all I can get is either:

1) "Your service in the armed forces doesn't count if you have certain opinions."

2)" You served in the armed forces in the hopes that it would fight against the oppression of trans-gendered people, but they're just as oppressed as before. Neener neener neener!"

Karl's Jr. and Hardees were among the first to yank their advertising? I'm very pleasantly surprised to read that. Karl Karcher, the founder of Karl's Jr., was a major figure in conservative Orange County, even to the point of supporting the John Birch Society. He might be someone who would be hard to convince, so I checked to see if he were still alive. Sure enough, he's dead, Jim.
