I can think of two possibilites:

1. They didn't actually read the article, just heard about OMG GAY BRAINWASHING and linked it as a damning example; or

2. They actually think that being gay is a valid reason for being bullied.

About the article itself, I'm rolling my eyes over the complaints that the classes lack an opt-out option. What do you want to bet that 99.9% of the parents who want their kids to opt out would (or currently do) look the other way when their darlings are accused of using homophobic slurs against their classmates?

	More often then not, it seems to be number 2. I hear this a lot: "It's not wrong to tell gay kids they're going to hell - it's the truth." To which my response is always, "Fine. But when the atheist kids tell your kid they're gonna rot in the ground and all their sacrifice to please their stupid imaginary friend is for nothing, I'm gonna laugh."
