GIRLS ARE ICKY!
Pedigru has some personal issues with Sims 3. He makes a post with the header 'Please stop forcing heterosexual relationships on my sims'.

His main complaints: His male Sim that he wishes to play as gay will still talk to and befriend girls, he believes that gay marriage is no longer possible in Sims 3 (which several commenters correct him on and he edits his original post), and the fact that the word 'gay' is censored on the official EA forums (this was actually fixed as a result of the thread, with a mod saying that censoring was a glitch).

Many people respond agreeing with him, and still others respond saying their own experiences in-game have been different. They've had no problems with their Sims forming gay relationships and eventually marriages.

When Pedigru posts a response, he clarifies his main complaint. It's not that his Sim is actually using romantic interactions with female Sims autonomously (he's not)... it's the fact that he's even talking to girls at all!

"My original post and concern was about the issue of no apparent relationship counter. I'm betting most every single response in this thread is from people who control their Sims' lives fully. I enjoy going to sleep at night and leave the game running with my Sims leading their own lives. When I wake up I get all excited to see what my little guys were doing while I slept.

Sadly, however, my clearly g.a.y Sims seem to start up friendships with girls at every opportunity. Not to offend a huge portion of the community playing this game but, imho, girls are icky! I don't want my g.a.y sims involved with any girls for any reason at all.

I'm going to go ahead and do an experiment then blog about it on my page. I'll control a brand spanking new Sim male and involve him exclusively with other male Sims for am 8 hour period (real life time). Then I'll go to sleep and leave the game running, letting my guy do his own thing overnight for an 8 hour period. Lets see if he has a boyfriend or a girlfriend the next day."

This ends well, as you'd imagine.

ClaudiaVanTramp: "By the way, you sound a little bit sexist and childish with that "girls are icky" line. I'm trying to be mature and not hold it against you, but to be honest I find it really annoying that you're so closed minded towards friendship in a computer game. I think all I have to say to you now is: grow up."

Pedigru: "I'll try to not hold it against you that you sound like a typical judgemental heterosexual woman. Nor will I mention the irony of your judging me for judging... oh wait... "

Took the word right out of my mouth.

Somehow I imagine this guy has his very own He-Man Woman-Haters Clubhouse.

I know someone in RL who likes to emphasize how icky girls are. So I'd say he might not be a troll.

Unfortunately, I don't think he's a troll. This isn't actually the first time I've come across a homosexual man with this opinion of women. Typically though it's a man who was formerly bisexual and had a lot of (according to him) bad relationships with women.

Wait. Wait. Wait.

Being gay means you can't be friends with people of the opposite gender.

Wat.

OH NOES, MY GAY FRIENDS DON'T EXIST!

I may well be wrong, as I haven't played the Sims 3 yet, but couldn't he just solve this "problem" by creating an all-male neighborhood? And who the fuck leaves their Sims running and then gets pissed off when they do stupid shit? These are the same characters that will set the house on fire if you leave them alone for long enough, right?

If he isn't a (rather bad) troll, he's destined for a tough time in the non-game world with that attitude. Not that the two options are mutually exclusive, of course.

...one of the things I like best about The Sims is that, as a general rule, Sims are not terribly picky about the sex of other Sims when forming relationships. If you want an exclusively gay Sim, you're going to have to manually direct his attentions towards guys only (same for lesbian or heterosexual Sims - if you just let them go without micromanaging their relationships, there are no guarantees. Which is why mine generally end up set on fire in the end - I get bored of them not doing what I want.)

I haven't gotten TS3 yet, but in TS2, my sims won't start relationships with anyone unless I make them do one romantic interaction (just a flirt will do it). Do you have the ACR hack?

Oh man, this is why I never go to the official EA site for the Sims 2 or 3. It's even more full of idiots than the other Sims forums.

I do think EA has been nicely egalitarian in The Sims (1/2/3)'s treatment of men, women, gay people, straight people, and so on. Even though they can be full of fail on other things, I would have been shocked if they'd taken out gay marriage.

Considering where EA's games are developed, I'd bet that they'd lose a noticeable portion of their workforce if they did something as fail as that.

Unless they've upped the Sims' intelligence in TS3, all that will prove is that Sims are too dumb to live without human guidance.

So far from what I've played they do seem a lot more responsible this time around. I don't know if I'd leave them alone overnight, but thanks to the Story Progression in the current game even the Sims you're not currently playing go on with their lives (fall in love, get married, have kids, age, etc.) without you watching them.

No kidding. I'm too afraid to leave my Sims alone for 15 minutes, much less 8 hours. Whenever I leave mine alone, I come back to find them unemployed and trying to sleep with the neighbors.

It'll probably take only a few hours until the first "this is why I'm against gay marriage" posting. They always pop up when one (maybe, if it's not a troll) member of a minority is seen saying something idiotic.

This is why you take off the free will option.

I mean: He's being an immature dick, just as much as if he was a straight guy infuriated that his self-insert Sim had made close friends with a guy.

But. Seriously, it's The Sims. If you want to control every aspect of their existence, you can.

Baby, if irony could power turbines, yours would have kept an entire Namibian town running for about two and a half days.

Or an American town for about half an hour.
