Unrest in the vegan community.
From wank_report.

http://community.livejournal.com/veganpeople/3676231.html

In short, a member of the vegan/activist community has been accused of rape/harassment/stalking and the mod will not allow posts regarding this.

Some members are upset.

Another post is referenced in one of the threads, but I haven't linked it as it has the guy's name, which I don't think we are supposed to do.

The guy sounds like a classic predator--and a very good one. I especially liked the part where the contact email and LJ account for one of the groups people were trying to warn went through him... so obviously, no warning got through. Nice.

This is charivari at its finest. I hope it works.

It looks like the mods are willing to allow the post once they have proof that the allegations are real, since it sounds like they got burnt by false allegations a while back. OTOH, they don't seem to be moving their asses to find any proof.

The mod in the post keeps going on about how there's no way to contact the groups involved, and abandoning the thread when an accuser brings up contact info links.

If that's representative, when they say "the mods are investigating", it means they're looking in a different direction every time some proof shows up.

Yeah, I see that now. It looked like a real attempt to get proof until the ball-dropping turned into a pattern.

Also, hard proof is notoriously difficult to come by when social predators are involved. Their whole M.O. is to leave no traces and discredit every witness. If you accept only proof that doesn't rely on "I saw" or "I heard" or "this happened in private," there isn't going to be any.

This is why social predators like groups. Every group is bound to have someone who will slow the process down with ridiculous demands and Pollyanna theories of human behavior.
