Warnings Wank 2: Electric Clusterfuck
This shit be ugly y'all.

Following the previous 1000 comment unfunnybusiness post there have been some further entries to the fail-lympics, and to make things slightly easier and spare [info]doriangray's inbox I'm making a new post.

First, an update that didn't make it into the original post: [info]wistfuljane posts an open letter to zvi, thanks to [info]ingrid for linking it. There is, naturally, more wank in the comments.

Now for some new stuff. From [info]wank_report, the mousies found a couple of new posts on the issue, each one with its own wank. The first definitely has more than the second, starting with a lovely quote in the post:

"2. If you're that mentally and emotionally fragile, you probably shouldn't be reading fic at all. Or watching television. Or reading regular novels. And for god's sake, you'd better get off the internet right now."

That turns into a nice little teal deer wankfest in the comments.

There is some voice of reason in both posts. It is far too dilute to be of any good.

Finally, we have an added enormous clusterfuck inside the house. [info]esorlehcar and [info]oulangi get into a monstrously ugly fight in the comments of the first post. I don't even know, kids, I really don't.

And that's the ugliness. Anyone else has major developments they want to link put 'em in the comments, I'll try to keep up but I make no guarantees.

ETA 1: [info]agent_hyatt reports further wank inside the house. On a completely ADD note, I really need to figure out if I can do that Il Pallazzo cosplay.....

ETA 2: [info]caoilainn drops us a couple more links with plenty of wank to go around. Enormous clusterfuck is ENORMOUS.

ETA 3: More from inside the house, courtesy of [info]miss_padfoot. Here it's [info]misswindy talking about potential connections with racefail and setting off another hoard of teal deer.

ETA 4: A couple fresh links for you courtesy of [info]kelmendi and [info]esclaramonde! Aukestrel puts up an apology/flounce and zvi puts up what I might even call a genuine apology.

ETA 5: [info]sparklepuss brings us one more passenger on the failboat. ETA 5.5: And another.

I'm just uncomfortable about dictating what someone does in their own journal, because that means someone can tell dictate to me.

No one is, or should not be, dictating. Most people who are pro-warning have been asking, and often very politely and very thoughtfully.

Sorry someone from the lunatic fringe is making the pro side look bad.

It's probably also because I haven't been reading around much. I've been afraid about coming across more stuff about BDSM is bad, though I've read some very good posts talking about BDSM in relation to all this.

I guess it's more of a emotional subject to me than I though. and I probably should talk some of this over with my therapist.

I think BDSM (I think I typed the acronym wrong in my other reply, whoops it's late here) is coming up not as a judgement of the practice itself, but more the fact that some writers try to call their non-con BDSM or use bondage gear in a non-con fic, which is problematic for another set of reasons and there is a whole other debate about what exact is non-con and dub-con, which I won't even try to get into, it's a huge other issue.

I am pretty sure the sensible people on both sides of the debate can agree that consensual bedroom play is generally considered a very different kettle of fish, though it may be written in a way that unfortunately resembles triggering things, in a purely superficial way.

Definitely have a chat with the therapist. I've been discussing all of this with mine since the debacle began and it's been a bit cathartic and enlightening.

Also, I'm sorry if any of this has been painful for you to read. Definitely not worth looking at half of it, I wish I could unsee some of it.
