I get regularly screened for wank.
P. Bad here. Before I get into this wank, I'd like to take a serious moment to warn you that it is of a medical nature, and some people may find some of the subject matter uncomfortable or upsetting. It deals with cancer, vaccinations, autism, and the complete dismissal of any semblance of scientific research.

It all started with known troll [info]lucy_chronicles posting a short entry to [info]naturalliving stating that cancer screening is unnecessary and that breast cancer largely 'cures itself'. Response was generally along the vein of "Yeah, sure, bad science." until mods deleted then reposted it in the [info]naturallvn_mods community, then posted their own rebuttal to the main community.

Some community members applauded the removal of the troll quackery, while others, like [info]act_of_growth, start to call mods and members alike sheep, brainwashed by the western medicine machine, and censoring their right to free speech.

[info]zibblsnrt: If someone says they've got a secret, natural treatment for cancer that has a higher success rate than current treatments and no side effects, that person is a liar and a fraud and a threat to the life of anyone foolish enough to believe them.

[info]act_of_growth: That kind of thinking is a product of well executed brain washing. As far-fetched and paranoid as that sounds, well...I don't care. I feel really sorry for you, that you have been so misled by your educators and your media that you don't believe statistic, logic, and numbers.

There are natural cures out there that have produced an 80% success rate. Why don't you go on and guess chemotherapy's success rate. It's just a little lower. ;)

It's precisely people like you and thinking like that, that makes sure people who are healing cancer in far greater numbers...never be heard. And it stops people who deserve to live from being cured.

[info]act_of_growth also can't seem to grasp that anecdotes != scientific proof. Instead, she'd like to come back in multiple subsequent threads with links to youtube videos, and copy-pasting a friend's lj post that quotes from the website of Dr. Mercola who is clearly an unbiased source... that requires payment to even access the articles in question.

Hey guys, western medicine makes us ignorant slaves:
[info]act_of_growth: It turns out that the people living in the jungle in huts usually live far longer and better than the rest of us, and the west is largely make up of ignorant slaves. ;)

And free speech is kinda... hard to understand?:
[info]marzipan_robots: When you're in a group that has RULES (which you agreed to when you signed up) and you break those rules, the moderators can do with your post as they please. You want free speech? Go get a blog.

And actually, I really wouldn't care if you deleted my responses.

[info]act_of_growth: Oh, okay. Go tell that to the government then. "You can censor aaannnyyything I say! Go ahead! Shut me up!" Haha wowza

[info]marzipan_robots: What are you even talking about?

After all of that, I found myself thinking: NaturalLiving sure is a prime wank-breeding area. The only thing that would be better than this would be a discussion on vaccines and autism... what's this? [info]act_of_growth read my mind?

I was a perfectly healthy child back in Poland, where they do not require nearly as many vaccinations (or at least they didn't when I lived there a decade ago). When my family and I moved to the United States, my brother and I were forced to be given many vaccines -- that is when I developed epilepsy and my brother developed Asperger's Syndrome. We have a very healthy family and I cannot think of a single illness that even a great grandparent had, with the exception of my grandpa who got cancer (and that was simply because he smoked three packs a day)....I include that information just to show our disease and disorder are not hereditary. My mother was surrounded by all the doctors in our family (there are 8) and she was well taken care of during both of her pregnancies. I'm not saying that guarantees healthy children; I'm just ruling some things out. What I'm saying is....my family was perfectly healthy until the arrival to America, upon which my brother and I had to get several vaccines, and got very ill. Don't get me wrong, I love this country, but....

One of my aunts, who is a pediatrician and graduated from Northwest University, held off her children from vaccination until the very last minute, when she thought they were big enough to handle the mercury content. Actually, she told me she did not want to vaccinate at all, but at some point the kids have to go to school and she was tired of fighting (she was not aware of any loopholes at the time). This surprised me from a conservative person such as her, as people who do not like to vaccinate are often termed as crazy hippies and the like.

I know Jenny McCarthy isn't a doctor, but I happen to agree with her general opinion when it comes to the subject of vaccination. Vaccination itself isn't wrong -- but why all the harmful ingredients? Harmful is an understatement -- they are poisons. Surely by now science can give us a new way to store them and preserve them?....

With such claims as aborted fetal tissue, MSG, and borax in vaccines, it's no small wonder that her sources are questioned - with blinkies! - and found lacking. Also, polio was steadily declining before vaccines, as were other diseases, which naturally means that vaccines are useless, not that people finally decided washing hands was a good idea. And Red Dye #52 is like mercury, but not like crickets. She's not interested in researching, but will gladly ask you to do it for her.

More? Autism is being diagnosed more because nerds are breeding. Stop calling hippies conspiracy theorists, even if that's not actually what you said. Ultimately, [info]act_of_growth isn't really wanking because she thinks 99% of her comments are snark-free, even the ones that ask [info]marzipan_robots if she wants hugs or a make-out session.

Only [info]kaowolfie seems to get it right:
I strongly doubt that there's a counterargument in existence that you would find to be worthwhile. You seem very set in your ways and like you're more intent on showing off how big and mean folks who are not-antivaccine are. You completely disregard any logical arguments with which you are presented and seem to delight in twisting around the words of others until they bear no resemblance to their original meaning.

It appears to me that all you wanted was a chance to play the victim and feel self-righteous. It's a shame you confuse others' strong opinions with personal attacks and can't tell when you're flat out insulting someone for having the temerity to disagree with you.
