Oh PETA
PETA Unhappy Meals Targeting Kids

Just what you need to cement your child's budding courolophobia. Make them watch "It" late at night or let PETA give them a knife-wielding Ronald McDonald toy.

What's included in these Unhappy Meals: a bloody rubber chicken, a cutout of a knife-wielding Ronald McDonald, photos of mutilated animals and a Chicken McCruelty T-shirt.

If I see those folks outside my local McDonald's, it's a sure bet that I'll be walking by very, very quickly, to avoid seeing the clown.

Oh man, ever dropped an egg in a henhouse? The hens go after it like demons to eat it.

They do the same thing with mice.

Also, seeing roosters gangbang a hen was what made us decide to kill all the roosters on our farm.

I watched IT when I was... 10? Something like that. It was at a sleepover. My friend asked me if I developed a fear of clowns. I said, "No, just a hatred of sleepovers".

I also read the book a couple years later.

Meanwhile, PETA is creepier than Stephen King writing about twelve year old gang-bangs. Fancy that.

You know, if I ever have kids, they'll know exactly WTF meat is 'cause it's an important bit of information. I occasionally feel bad about eating animals. If anyone from PETA ever approaches my child with things of that nature, there will be retribution. That's not a protest, that's fucked up.

"The bottom line is that they've really seen much worse in movies and videogames, and we all know that kids empathize with animals."

I don't know. A clown wielding a bloody knife is probably bigger nightmare fuel than what most six year olds have seen.

When I was a kid, I had piano lessons in a building that also house a Planned Parenthood office. One Saturday a month, I'd have to run the gauntlet of crazed anti-abortion protesters waving signs and shoving pictures of bloody fetii in my face.

I was 8-10.

15 years later, I was doing clinic defense. Take a hint, PETA--most of the kids you're accosting will grow up and really resent the attempt to manipulate them.

Okay, I don't find clowns scary and it annoys me what a cliche trope it's become, but that illustration on the outside of the box is fucking terrifying.

Also, "gentle animals like chickens?" Are we talking about the rock-stupid birds that will peck another chicken to death if they see a bleeding wound on it, or are these some kind of fluffy cloud magical fairy chickens? Because I'd expect the quality of fast food chicken to be a lot higher if it's that second kind.

Like I didn't have enough problems with clowns as it is, thankyouverymuch, PETA. But, seriously, chickens? CHICKENS??

Also, is it wrong that my very first reaction, after back-clicking like mad away from the psycho Ronald McDonald, is to think, "Gee, I could go for some McDonald's now..."??

Am I crazy for suspecting that a lot of kids, the ones old enough to have started sneaking R-rated movies (which I remember doing at eight) are going to have a reaction PETA won't like?

Namely: "AWESOME! I'm gonna pit Ronald against my Freddy Krueger action figure! Let's see who I can freak out with the chicken tomorrow at school..."

...Theeeeeeeere miiiiiight be a part of me that wants one of those things for the sheer lulziness of it.

I don't think I've ever hated any PETA stunt as much as this one. You are adults, or supposed to be. You are not supposed to be scaring children unnecessarily, you fuckers. There is absolutely no reason to hand small children fake bloodied animals. Maybe some kids are that desensitized to violence, but a lot of them aren't, and there's not much I hate more than people who feel the need to betray the trust of little kids--which includes scaring them.

/as a child, would have had horrible nightmares thanks to these assholes

/would still have eaten meat

My sheer existence defies PETA's logic. My family raises chickens/cows, and even NAMES them... and yet I still eat chicken and beef. So there goes the argument that 'If you knew how ka-woot all these animals are you wouldn't eat them.' I throughly agree with everyone saying cows, pigs, and chickens are EVIL, and that only makes eating them taste better.

In fact, I've been asking my family to teach my chicken butchering, as I think it would be super-cool to cook a chicken I'd processed from start to finish myself.

Because simply providing access to facts (regarding nutrition and the meat/dairy industries), while allowing for opposing viewpoints, and then letting people to make their own educated decisions? Noooo, that's letting the enemy win! People must be manipulated into subscribing to our brand of morality.

This campaign has an almost tobacco industry-esqe, "git 'em while they're young" feel to it. Granted, I see the goal as more noble, but I don't think the ends justify the means. Their marketing tactic of using and pandering to celebrities is reminiscent of Scientology. Not to mention their completely humorless concept of parody: just take well-known products and campaign slogans, and replace the positive adjectives and verbs with negatives! (ex. I'm hatin' it!, Don't have it your way!)

I'm a vegan, and I can't stand PeTA's methods. For 95% of the population, they do nothing more than perpetuate the stereotype of vegans and vegetarians as shrill, angry fanatics.

I have to say, though... I have met some calm, cuddly chickens. Animals of all species can display different levels of aggression, depending on the amount of socialization they've had, how they've been raised, etc., (as well as genetics). They're certainly not as universally angelic as PeTA would have you believe, but neither are they universally hostile.
