TV host suspected of ordering killings

"A state lawmaker in Brazil who hosted a crime TV show is under investigation for allegedly ordering killings that boosted his show's popularity.

Police have confirmed they are investigating Wallace Souza and his son for allegedly ordering at least five of the killings.

Souza's lawyer said his client vehemently denies the accusations, and said political opponents were trying to disgrace him.

He said the only witness is a police officer who made the accusations in hopes of leniency in nine murders he is charged with.

Amazon State's police intelligence chief however, said the accusations stem from the testimony of several former employees and security guards who worked with the Souzas, allegedly as part of a gang of former police officers involved in drug trafficking.

He started "Canal Livre" in the 1990s on a local station in the capital of Brazil's largely lawless Amazonas state.

It became extremely popular before going off the air late last year as police intensified their investigation."

And if so, doesn't Law & Order usually follow real life, not the other way around?

Indeed it was. It's what sparked my distrust of about 90% of reality TV shows.

I can't quite believe that the obvious conclusion isn't just a product of my media-addled brain. This is a murder mystery plot, not an actual... I mean, I'm half convinced that they're going to send in UCOS.

And then I realise it's real, and I feel a bit sick.
