When comics are unfunny.
Not that Ziggy's ever been funny in my memory, but this is still rather amazingly unfunny. Since you don't have any money, you should go to an ethnic restaurant? And ethnic is bolded!

*scratches head*

So, if you can't afford to go to foreign places, eating foreign food is the next best thing? Is that the point?

I think that's the point. It took me a moment to figure it out. The lame joke might have been helped along if the travel agent had a poster for, say, a foreign locale, rather than Hawaii.

He shoulda bolded "restaurants" instead of "ethnic."

With most comics, I can never figure out why they've bolded some words and not others. It's really weird.

I know - I always used to have this habit when I was a kid of reading only the bolded words as if they would spell out a secret message, because there didn't seem to be any other rhyme or reason to it. They didn't.

If someone has done the bolding correctly, it should evoke a sense of the intonation of the sentence. A lot of the times people go overboard though. It's something I tend to use sparingly, and I only use it with words I want people not to ignore (place names, emotions, etc).

OH! Now it makes some semblance of sense. Still not funny, but less bizarrely racist-seeming.

Yeah, that's the joke. Pretty weak, no?

Alton Brown said it better.

This is more awesome than the Good Eats episode on Energy Bars!

(That episode parodied both Monty Python, and Silence of the Lambs.)

I think one of my favorite Alton Brown moments was when he presented his just-completed Tequila Sunrise and proclaimed it "like an Eagles Concert in a glass".

I think the point is that the artist behind Ziggy gets paid for that. And he's been getting paid for it for years.

The comic is now the Sunday one (which is also unfunny), but it totally didn't make sense with the write up, and I was wondering what was wrong with me :(

It really doesn't make sense. Sometimes he wears pants, and sometimes he appears to be wearing nothing but a t-shirt. My theories:

a)He's wearing nude tights.
b)He lives on a clothing optional resort and only puts pants on when he leaves.
c)He's not actually human, so like Donald Duck, he doesn't need pants. But he likes them sometimes.

There's no consistency or logic though! Sometimes he goes bottomless in public, and wears pants in his house. I think I'm becoming kind of obsessed with this.

Every time I see your icon, I have to make that little nasally grunt from MST3K. And then mutter Rowsdower a few times. I just thought you should know about the Pavlovian response you provoke.

Because, you know, when I go to the Japanese restaurant, it's totally inexpensive food, right?

There was also a series of Garfield edits where they kept Garfield in the picture but removed all of his dialog.

It turned into this melancholy story of a lonely, bitter little man who yells at his cat.

Kind of terrifying, really.

Oh! I was scratching my head for a while since your link leads to the current comic, not the one previously which is what you are talking about.

I get what the point was -- Ziggy can't afford to fly to Hawaii, but he can afford to eat Thai. Yeah. Yawn. Meh.
