Update on the Philadelphia swimming club incident in June
As reported here back in July, a country club in PA asked a day camp of mostly black kids to leave and refunded the camp for the membership they'd paid for.

Edited Today Yesterday (I think, seems the panel released its findings yesterday and it was in the news today) a state panel in PA says the club's actions were probably racially motivated. Of course the club's lawyers are going to fight that.

Today a state panel in PA says the club's actions were probably racially motivated.

I realize that the reason this announcement is just coming now because of the legal process they had to go through to "investigate" this, but a part of me just wants to say "come on -- even headless shepherds in Borneo could tell this was a racial thing."

Yeah, I had a similar reaction. And then I had the reaction of "Well thank goodness it didn't get brushed aside." Which is sad as well, because of course it shouldn't be brushed aside, but the chance was there.

I gotta admit--- my first thought was "Nah, really? I thought their actions were taco motivated."

Well, it's better than improbable, Holmes notwithstanding.

Also, I less-than-three your icon.

It's a good icon for "bwuh?" reactions.

Having gone through an HRC complaints process for discrimination, I can just say I'm grateful they're so thorough and cautious. It's "probable" because the manager didn't write a memo to all staff saying "Keep the black kids out of the pool" and post it in a public place, or something equally stupid. Every time people go on rants about how this kind of discrimination complaint is handled in a biased, overly-PC manner, it's really nice to be able to say, "No, actually, they require extensive proof, and if there's not extensive proof they say so."

The panel also declared that fire is probably hot. Next week, they will discuss the breathability of oxygen, though they don't expect to come to any firm conclusions.

We'd better be sure not to miss their groundbreaking report: "Bears shitting in the woods: Fact or fiction?"

Don't forget their hard-hitting expose on whether puppies and kittens really are soft and fluffy.

Considering they've been stymied for weeks on the issue of the relative wetness of water, I'm not hopeful.

But they did manage to determined that ice has a good chance of being cold, so cut them a bit of slack there.

I think next week is the determination if the sun will rise in the morning (there is a chance it might not), after that they start the breathability of oxygen research.

The sun way well rise in the morning, I'll grant you that one.

And in other news- the Pope is Catholic. Full story at 11.

Yeah, I'm really glad I hadn't taken that sip of milk when I read your comment- otherwise it would have been all over my laptop. I had the glass to my mouth and read your comment and instantly started laughing.
