US Census worker hanged, "FED" written on his chest

A U.S. Census worker found hanged from a tree near a Kentucky cemetery had the word "fed" scrawled on his chest, a law enforcement official said Wednesday, and the FBI is investigating whether he was a victim of anti-government sentiment.

I'm waiting for Michele "The US Census is gathering information for FEMA internment camps" Bachman to apologize. But I'm not holding my breath.

/so glad my sister apparently got the non-crazy portion of the country

EDIT: Profile of William Sparkman. Single father, got his teaching degree while battling cancer. All around good guy.

ETA 2: More detail.

Apparently he was found hanged, but in contact with the ground, stripped naked, hands and feet duct taped, gagged, and with his US Census badge duct taped to his right shoulder.

Is this area, like a backwater area or something?

ON a sortave related note, I love filling out the census...it's interesting to see what questions are asked from census to census, and then I love looking the stats up online when they all come in.

My bet: they'll blame it on the NWO. Possible reasons conspiracy theorists will give for the NWO doing this:

1) They wanted to paint the anti-NWO people in a bad light.

2) The victim was going to blow the whistle on the whole FEMA internment camp thing, so the NWO had to silence him, and they had to frame someone else for the murder so that no one would suspect the real culprit.

2b) The murder scene and the media reports on the murder will contain things that would be meaningless to most people, but will be an obvious message to other census workers that they should keep quiet if they know what's good for them. (Of course, these same hints will also be obvious to the conspiracy theorists)

Census work is always weird, but it's not often dangerous; even the field interviewer who was trying to get people up around Cougar and Spirit Lake to fill out their forms in 1980 didn't get blowed up when Mt. St. Helens erupted.

And on another note: I don't know if the regulations vary from state to state, but here, pretty much the only thing you're allowed to carry on you that would constitute as a weapon is your car keys. They "recommend" that everything else aside from your identification badge, computer, and booklet bag stay in your vehicle. That means this man was most likely completely unarmed on top of everything else, which just makes the whole scenario that much more disturbing to me.

Okay, look -- this is horrifying, absolutely. But, as someone linked above, and I'll just repeat the link here:

Read that, and suddenly, it seems entirely possible that he was killed for reasons having nothing to do with all the right-wing insanity. Drug-growers are a segment of the population that are pretty hostile to the feds, after all. It doesn't take a huge leap of the imagination to see this guy stumbling into a big marijuana-growing operation, and being assumed to be an undercover agent or a probable informant. Or to see the display of his body as a "warning" to other federal agents in the context of drug-gang warfare.

(I imagine that one of the things the FBI has been trying to determine is whether he was killed by being hanged/lynched, or whether he was killed in some other way, and the body was posed in that manner. That explains some of the hedging going on, I think. Esp. if, as the article says, the body was decomposing, which would make it more difficult to determine the cause of death without an investigation. The article linked above relates that areas around drug-growing operations are heavily booby-trapped, with the feds in mind. The guy might have been killed by a booby-trap, even.)

I'm totally with everyone on the immediate reaction of linking this to the right-wing hate-mongering that's been going on. But frankly, "killed as part of drug-gang warfare" makes a lot more sense, perhaps especially for a census worker (even if he's just innocently sticking his nose in someplace), and especially for one operating in the middle of an area of Appalachia already known for the problem.

So for everyone outside of America -- take a deep breath. This is not necessarily "OMG America is INSANE!" Take a look at the drug warfare in your own countries, and tell me that's not fairly universal.

(Note: I'm not disagreeing with overall cries of disbelief over how insane America is in dozens of other ways, especially lately. But before we take this as a crowning piece of evidence, let's be sure about what we're talking about.)

Echoing what others have said- he was a census worker- WHO THE HELL WAS HE HURTING??? I know of some people in our legislature that I have had the urge to strangle but a census worker? No... just... no.
