You know how catty those women are...
First, a five-second rundown on what the Takarazuka is for those of you who don't know: famous all-female Japanese musical theatre troupe with a small but devoted non-Japanese fanbase. Runs a highly selective (is that the word I'm looking for? Er, "difficult to get into") music school for girls who want to become Takarazuka members. ETA: A wiki link would probably help, huh?

A girl has recently been expelled* from the Takarazuka Music School because she was accused of shoplifting; she says the accusations are false and that the girls responsible had been bullying her for a while, and is suing the school to let her back in. Which is already not terribly funny. (* That article's in Japanese, unfortunately, but there's a translation in the post linked below.)

The fun, however, really starts when the person who posts the news to the Takarazuka LJ comm includes a comment (now edited out) along the lines of "This is why I'd never go near an all-girls school. Women are scary, and they carry grudges."

Some people believe this to be offensive. Others disagree, stating that it's true because women have PMS, it's just a joke, and you shouldn't be mean to the original poster because she's a BNF.

(Incidentally, is there a program that will let me screencap/save the post without just alt+print-screen-ing it a few dozen times? The Takarazuka comm has a habit of deleting anything that gets too wanky.)

Is this like...the Japanes equivalent of the Pussy Cat Dolls?

And I'd be terrified of any school like that as well, not because they are all girls, but because it would...be, I don't know how to say it, horrendous. Like watching an episode of America's Top Model, but these girls have to live it all the time.

Yeah, according to most accounts I've heard, the school is very competitive and as a result bullying is a big problem, but that hasn't really been openly acknowledged by anyone involved until now. Which would be why this is sort of a big deal.

PDFit for Firefox lets you save pages as JPGs or PDFs - just be sure you unfold all the comments first, 'cuz it pretty much takes everything on the web page and snaps it.

... Oh lord, I feel a little bad for thinking it, but I can totally see it. Well, minus the lawsuit part, anyway. Shoujo manga don't tend to solve problems through legal channels.

For some reason, I'm just seeing people using that to preface completely unrelated sentences.

"As a woman and a feminist, dogs are furry."

"As a woman and a feminist, I like cheese!"

"As a woman and a feminist, the Sun is a mass of incandescent gas..."

Mine was actually significantly worse - but, as they actually made me work and pushed me academically (which I wouldn't have got elsewhere) I probably shouldn't complain. Though I'm not sure WHAT it says about the school that one of its more famous ex-pupils is now a high class hooker...

Yeah, in middle and high school I was picked on by boys and the girls mostly left me alone — not that girls can't be bullies, but they certainly don't have a monopoly on it.

I feel bad that all I can think of is the Takarazuka show I went to for a class where the two lovers bonded over their mutual love of penguins, or at least this is what the English language blurb told me (I really wish I'd saved that program :( ). Not one of their finer musicals, truth be told.

Bullying doesn't surprise me, but it's not a unique female problem in Japan, land of bullying epidemics.

What browser are you using. Don't know of one for IE, other than Fireshot. For Firefox, you have many options. I recommend Talon (which not only screengrabs, but links directly to the Aviary online editing tool)

...Is this the appropriate moment to say "this is incredibly depressing, but I love their "Make 'Em Laugh" and wish there was footage of them doing "Good Morning" on the youtube?" Because I've been wanting to say that for a while, and now it's finally kind of relevant.

In other news, I graduated from a women's college, and it was hella nicer than going to co-ed high school, so even if that one is incredibly unawesome as far as bullying and stuff goes, bitches please on painting them all the same way.
