They have at least since apologised, but still. (Also, note the sexism fail at the end of the original article. Why, pray tell, does it matter that the original idiocy was committed by a woman?)

The Ugandan bill was instigated at the prompting of U.S. evangelicals.

Yes, Ugandan culture is homophobic all on its own. But American evangelicals are using it to enact their own agenda for gay people. The people involved are probably in the far, far right wing of the movement... but if the U.S. evangelical movement doesn't start screaming right now, it's going to be tantamount to agreeing that gays should be executed.
