All religions seem to fall into that trap eventually. The main message is peace and brotherhood, but somehow, someone finds a way to use it to break out the swords and burning brands. The Authoritarians talks about some of the reasons... but somehow, knowing that it's a function of human psychology, not of any given religion, doesn't make it any better.
