Apologies if you've see this twice, I was told to post here instead.

As if the rant on incest and how "It's like homosexuality, except not as widely accepted." isn't bad enough, we also have goddramon's thoughts on marrige:

"Marriage is about bringing new children into the world - new genomes and new combinations. Essentially, what it is, is low-class eugenics on an extremely massive scale."

"I just feel that the men should have to donate sperm monthly, and that the women should either have to serve as surrogates or donate eggs."

SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH THIS. Incest being like homosexuality? WRONG. Marriage = required kids? WRONG WRONG. The gays being FORCED to reproduce, taking away their CHOICE? WRONG WRONG WRONG.

I pray this guy is a troll.

Worse, people in stupid_free are AGREEING with him. Most haven't said on which points they agree, though. Ugh.

I wonder what he'd say about Sweden? We have married couples without children and unmarried ones with them. All by choice.

They're agreeing? WHAT. I hope it's the "incest =/= bad genetics" because otherwise...

Hell, we have married without and unmarried with everywhere. MOST of my married friends have no kids. Some unmarried do.

I think they're focusing mainly on "incest is like homosexuality", but they haven't specified.

Right. If a girl is raped by her father, for instance, and has a baby by him, the baby will probably be fine. It takes generations of inbreeding to produce problems like the European royal families had with hemophilia.

"Marriage is about bringing new children into the world - new genomes and new combinations. Essentially, what it is, is low-class eugenics on an extremely massive scale."

"I just feel that the men should have to donate sperm monthly, and that the women should either have to serve as surrogates or donate eggs."

Wow and hell no. Marriage is about having a legally-recognized relationship with certain defined rights and responsibilities, one of which is NOT procreating. And the human race is doing just fine at the reproducing without anyone having to make sperm, donate eggs or serve as baby incubators against their will. Why the hell do they think we have 6 billion people on the planet?

SO much fail.

Well, it really depends on what sort of nasty recessives the family has lurking in their genome. Most families could last a fair number of generations, but if the family is a carrier of something like Tay Sachs then serious problems will start showing up immediately.

And the human race is doing just fine at the reproducing without anyone having to make sperm, donate eggs or serve as baby incubators against their will. Why the hell do they think we have 6 billion people on the planet?

Yes!

As far as why I, an only child, believe incest is wrong...it's rather simple really. Marriage is not about love or anything to do with it. Relationships, yes. Marriage, no. Marriage is about bringing new children into the world - new genomes and new combinations. Essentially, what it is, is low-class eugenics on an extremely massive scale. Therefore, I support the idea you have of sibling marriage and relationships - but not inbreeding. I've seen what it can do to dogs. I'm fearful of what it would do in the human society. I have two parts of my background which makes me unlikely to support incest - I am an only child, and my breeding is what you would call an outcross. My mother is English-Irish/German, my father is mostly Polish Jew with a little who-knows-what there in the background too.

I am an only child, and I believe you are a total retard.

To combat goddramon's total fayl, I submit an icon of the cutest fox in the whole world, as I lack booby icons.

I wish people'd keep their definitions of marriage to themselves.

And revenge. And a really big party. And because you were way drunk and the drive-thru wedding chapel sounded so kitsch. And to prove to your mom that you're not an unlovable spinster like she said. And for insurance and tax breaks.

These are, in fact, all reasons I've had thrown at me as to why I should marry my long-term partner. So I guess there are a lot of reasons that people have for getting married, not all of them so great. And a lot of reasons why someone may not want to get married, so people should STFU.

You know, I don't think this person studied Biology. I think it's more likely they've studied a whole new branch of the science called Biololgy, which is the practice of misinterpreting, misusing, or completely misunderstanding the life sciences to back up your unspeakably cracked fandom theory.

Am I the only one who was reading that post, wondering what the hell it had to do with fanfiction? I mean, toward the end they finally start talking about fanfic, but I still got the feeling that the actual meaning of the post was something along the lines of "Wahhh people don't approve of me fucking my sister whine whine whine" and they only added the bit about fanfiction at the last minute to justify posting it in fanficrants.

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]skauble
2008-06-28 06:54 pm UTC (link)
Yes, this. When I clicked on the link and it took me to fanficrants I did a double take.

Sure, there's a number of incest pairings in fanfiction, but his "why is incest immoral in society" didn't really seem to be a fandom related question because it demanded real life answers and justifications.

Also, his statement -

"Don't like incest? Then don't do it, and shut the fuck up."

Was telling in that he didn't say, "Don't like incest? Then don't read and/or write it, and shut the fuck up.

Most people agree that things you enjoy in fiction =/= things you support in real life. If it did the popularity of movies like Silence of the Lambs would greatly disturb me.

Actually, yes, I have considered the issue. The point remains, though, that there are a large number of fertile women who frankly have no interest in having children for one reason or another - my girlfriend is one.

His girlfriend doesn’t want to have his children? I simply can’t imagine why.

I love how, in his utopia, women have to go through the not simple process of egg donation or a full term pregnancy where as men just have to masturbate…which, frankly, many of them were going to do anyway.

Also, if he’s that concerned about genetics he’d do better to suggest that people should only be allowed to marry those with a vastly different genetic makeup. He’d still be a moron, but he’d make more sense than saying that in order to save the human race we have to make so many people that we don’t have the resources to support them.

'Kay, this guy fails practically every way possible. Even in historic times, marriage wasn't always about having kids. Frankly, a lot of it was about politics. Secondly, his theory of "low-class eugenics" has no basis in any known true science. Thirdly, the thing about how women should "have to" carry babies or donate eggs fails so hard it's on the verge of collapsing in on itself and creating a new black hole.

Earth Logic to goddramon, come in.

...Nope, static. Got the same logic-blocker that fundies use, and all the people that have chewed me out my whole life for not plopping out a kid of my own. See, 'cause "if we all thought like that the hyoomin raycce would diiiie ouuuuuttt."

Just ask any of these feebs "Okay, how many people are on the Earth now?" Ten bucks say you get a glass-eyed look. They Don't Know. The people most concerned about the whites (er, the HUMANS) dying out if I don't pop a kid out always, always Don't Know (TM) -- and they say it in that Proud-to-Not-Know-All-That-Big-Head-Book-Larnin-Stuff way that fundies and Republicans are so gosh-darn good at.

And guess how seriously I'm gonna take the reproductive advice of the "ejaculate and I'm done" gender about how I Ain't Dooin' Mah Fee-Male Dooty by risking diabetes, hemmorhoids, high blood pressure and destroyed teeth -- and that's just the pregnancy, not the childbirth, diapers, or 18 years of overwork.

I don't get the "if everyone thought like that"-argument, because... people don't think the same. I mean, you being childfree doesn't mean that I'm going to ~magically~ become childfree myself. This goes for, well, anything really.

The people most concerned about the fundies dying out

Fixed that for you.
