Amanda Palmer Really Wants You To Look At Her Now

I'm liking to Lauredhel's Dreamwidth. You can find AP's blog and read the related entries yourself.

Title of the song is

"DO YOU SWEAR TO TELL THE TRUTH THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH SO HELP YOUR BLACK ASS".

Her remarks on this title are as follows:

before any of you get up in arms about the title (peoples gettin’ mighty sensitive lately) please know:
the title is a reference to a lyric in a song called “fuck tha police” by a band called Niggaz With Attitude. look it up.

The closing lines of the song are:

so if i want to drink alone dressed like a pirate
or look like a dyke
or wear high heels and lipstick
or hide in a convent
or try to be mayor
or marry a writer
smoke crack and slash tires
make jokes you don't like
or paint ducks and retire

YOU CAN BET YOUR BLACK ASS THAT I'M GOING TO

[shouted] That's right, bitchez!

Or, instead, we could talk about My Little Ponies from the 80s. I had this one, which I forgot until I saw it on flickr:

Oh Amanda, SHUT UP ALREADY. You are getting perilously close to the Earth's magma with that hole you're digging there.

That pony is adorable. I miss when they put rainbows on all sorts of shit. She looks like she's going to go to aerobics class and it's going to spontaneously break out in musical theatre with cartoon special effects.

What's her name? I presume from the My Little Pony wanks that they have names?

My favorite My Little Pony was Baby Moondancer.

Also, between the two of us, [info]caito and I had the largest collection of My Little Ponies on the block. I felt as though this was important to note for some reason.

And now I wonder how many letters GNeil gets to the tone of "comment on/control your woman", which is its own kind of fail, because while AP is fucking up majestically, she still doesn't need her Man to tell her what to do.

I missed the My Little Ponies, for some reason, but when I was a kid, those terrifying troll dolls with long hair were all the craze, remember those?

I never 'got' MLPs, but does anyone remember cupcakes? They were my second favourite (first being Sylvanian Families, of which I still have an entire cupboard full).

It's a cake! It's a doll! It's a cake again! It's a doll, and it smells good! It's been forced into servitude by Barbie and needs to escape*! Hours of fun!

My parental indulged my Pony love when I was young but got rid of them all when I was 14. He goes out of his way to remind me how much he dislikes Ponys even to this day.

My Pony addiction started expressing itself by browsing online collectors sites until one glorious day when I picked up a G1 Minty in almost perfect condition at an op-shop. She now hides out in my Transformers collection. Being born in '89 makes this story slightly odd though.

I'm guessing the next step is either going to be blackface or a Nazi uniform.

My niece is quite fond of My Little Pony, which makes it easy to buy her presents. I tend to buy the little tiny figurine ones for her, though. The regular sized ones have me worried that they're going to stare at me with eyes full of hate when I'm not looking.

My fave was the white unicorn, who of course was the stallion to my herd. I told my mother to never get rid of them, so if all's well they're still in her attic somewhere. G1, I think, if that's the one in the pic.

Oh, I had MLPs, and troll dolls... but if we're going to talk about horses, I'm going to talk about my mum:

My mother's a horse-girl. She absolutely loves horses, and she had a horse from the time she was 15-16 or so until she was about five months pregnant with me (20 and a half, I believe) and it shows. I grew up seeing pictures of her and her horse, and she had *tons* of 'horsey' books, like My Friend Flicka, Black Beauty and so on. Some of which were good, some of which I found fairly boring, but she definitely passed on her love for horses to me. I got the chance to take riding lessons because my parents traded in my mother's old jumps and hay to the riding school (which is the only way we afforded it).

My riding came to a somewhat abrupt end during a summer riding camp because when they signed me up for 'intermediate', they thought it was intermediate everything, and at this point I was relatively experienced. Instead, it was intermediate jumping. I also wind up picking a horse that hated trying to be encouraged to canter and it would throw me off. Eventually, I got a different horse, but we had to do some complicated jumping, which scared the hell out of me, and what wound up happening was that I'd keep riding past the jump (the horse knew I was scared too, bless his little heart) and the riding instructor decided that the best way to get me to do what she wanted was to hit my horse with the riding crop in her hand.

This went as well as you can imagine. I went one way, and the horse went the other, and I fell off. I broke my arm, though my riding instructor not only made me get back on the horse (I fell off at least once more before lunch) but she also refused to allow me to call home or take a break until lunch. In the afternoon, I plead too much pain to ride, so I got to hang out in the lounge, borrowing people's ice packs from their lunches until my dad showed up. He took one look at my arm, then one look at me, and said, "You are going to the hospital, NOW." and off we went. Three and a half hours later, they saw me, and they had to numb my arm to get the cast on, and I recall having to have it redone partway through my healing because it was so loose I could pull it off.

So ended my riding career, but honestly, if I could afford it, and it weren't for the fact that I'm in absolutely no kinds of shape whatsoever, I'd love to do it again. I'm not afraid of horses, or even falling off (falling off happens, but you kind of learn how to roll) and I'm more angry than afraid of a riding instructor like that. A good fourteen years after the fact, I've decided if that happens to me again, they're getting told to fuck right off.

Heh. I posted three predictions in my LJ for what Amanda Flailing Palmer would do next:

1. Doing covers of all of Anal Cunt's most horribly sexist songs, and singing the lyrics clearly so that people can actually understand them and be offended by them.

2. Getting arrested for bathing in a church baptismal, wearing nothing but a vibrating buttplug, and yelling "fuck my ass, Jesus" over and over.

3. Writing ten songs for a new album: "Ten Reasons you should go shoot the President of the United States."

So my first reaction was, "hey, number three wasn't that far off! I'm clearly not cut out to be a psychic, but that was a good guess!"

My second reaction will be to groan, mutter "fuckin' attention whore," and get on with whatever I was doing before I read this.

I was never into My Little Pony. I just didn't care about horses or sparkles when I was little.

Beanie Babies, on the other hand. Oh man. I probably had 100 Beanie Babies, and I played with and obsessed over every last one.

My grandmother still occasionally gives me one for a birthday or something, and I'm out of college, lol.

As a kid, I never saw the My Little Pony tv series finale, but my friends told me that the Shadow Ponies cornered the M.L.P., sang a song with lyrics like 'you're gonna wish you were never born,' and then the episode just ended.

The next series started with a new batch of ponies, all of whom were orphans.

I'm not sure if my friends were trolling me or not.

When I was five, my family went down to visit one of Mom's college friends and her family in Orlando. And of course, as you do when you're in Orlando, they dragged us out to Disney World. I hated it. I haaaated it. I never really liked Disney anyway, but the park was hot and crowded and most of it scared me since I was a really timid little kid (I had a phobia of hippos and apparently was terrified by the idea I'd even see the Jungle River Ride because of the hippo that attacks the boat).

And Mom's friend's daughters had the most amazing My Little Pony collection I'd ever seen--they had Melody, and that white unicorn one with the rainbow mane and tail, and the ones with the gem eyes. I was so mad they were dragging me around that stupid park instead of just letting me stay at the house and play with the Ponies.

Oh, and what about She-Ra? She-Ra and He-Man were my second favorite shows after Thundercats when I was little. Swiftwind was the only She-Ra toy I remember having, but I loved that thing. My Real Ghostbusters figures used to ride it all over the place to fight ghosts.

Also the 1993 Mazda Protege my sister named She-Ra, Princess of Power refuses to die. It drove to Rhode Island to Virginia to Ohio and got smacked up in an accident badly enough the insurance company wanted to total it, but it still drives pretty nicely.
