Entry tags:another reason to hate people, doubleplusungood, godwin weeps, gonna be a looong campaign, oh for god's sake, wtf, wtf?

When a 25-year-old Manhattan graduate student who was assaulted Tuesday night got dressed that morning, she probably didn’t anticipate that her T-shirt would provoke four teens into shoving her, pulling out her earphones and spitting in her face.

Then again, with a shirt sporting the slogan, “Obama is my slave,” it may have been wise to consider the possibility.

Now she’s suing the $69 shirt’s designer, Apollo Braun, for “all he’s got,” the designer claims.

The designer says he doesn't like Obama "because he's a Muslim," and that he's moved shirts that say things like, "Jews against Obama," "Obama=Hitler" and "Who Killed Obama?"

I can't decide what fails most: that someone designed this shirt, that someone bought it (for $69!), or that the person who bought it is now trying to sue the designer because, surprise, surprise, it got a poor reception on the streets of New York.

ETA: No, I'm not condoning the attack upon the woman, no matter how offensively racist her shirt was. Questioning her judgment, yeah, but I'm not endorsing the teens who attacked her. Physical violence is also for the fail. Just FYI.

If she doesn't make it, there's plenty of other people who will. This post at Stupid Free should induce plenty of eye-rolling.

I'm not exactly condoning the assault myself, but quite honestly, if you're going to wear a shirt like that, you can at the very least expect an ugly and loud confrontation. The suing of the designer is just the frosting on the failcake.

The assault's a bit failtastic as well. I mean, I agree with everything you say here, and yeah that shirt is begging for trouble in most places I can think of, but still, assault isn't exactly a witty retort.

Also, am I a bad person for taking pleasure in seeing someone I would probably greatly dislike (the girl) trying to take down someone else I greatly dislike (the t-shirt guy)? No matter who wins, I get a warm little schadenfreude glow.

My god, it's full of fail!

The designer, the chick who bought and wore it, the people who beat her up over a t-shirt, and the lawsuit are all one big black hole of failure.

Maybe they'll all get hit by a bus.

Disclaimer: Violence not the answer, etc. etc., let justice be done.

That being said, you have to wonder if someone going out wearing a shirt like that is just stupid or actively looking for trouble so they can be a martyr about it. Also, $69? You could make your own for less than that.

Or how about the fact that people actually attacked her? Sure, it's a stupid fucking t-shirt, but who the fuck physically attacks someone over a t-shirt?

This reminds me of that Top Gear episode where they trolled Alabama and those fucked up rednecks actually pelted them with rocks and drove after them in TRUCKS.

I mean, Jesus, anger management, anyone?

I just made myself a t-shirt with the Darwin Fish on the front. Maybe someone would like to beat me up for that, too?

D:

I don't condone violence but that is an extremely poor choice of clothing, it's a deliberate provocation, it's insulting, and though I wish people had simply ignored her en masse and refused to interact with her, it would have taught her nothing. Then again, getting shoved around isn't going to teach her anything either. A person who puts a statement like that on themselves has a long way to go.

I don't get why people in the comments automatically assume that the people who don't have sympathy for this idiotic woman are condoning the fact that she was attacked.

Yeah, the people who attacked her are fucking assholes. But you can't deny she completely lacks common sense for wearing an offensive shirt like that in public. Is that really hard to understand?

She does NOT deserve sympathy, but the attackers lost any sympathy I could have had for them as soon as they became violent. All I can say is this woman is lucky that nothing worse happened, and I can't help but wonder if she realizes how lucky she is.

It takes massive balls for that guy to say the one thing he DOES like about Obama is that he's black and opening up the door to minorities, and then turn around and make a T-shirt that says, "Obama is my slave."

Fucking gargantuan testicles. I bet I could hollow out those sacs and turn them into a nice summer home.
