Schools do get seriously into victim-blaming when it comes to bullying and parental abuse.

I told my high school counselor that my father abused me. My counselor's solution was to tell my father that I'd told him that, and then send me home for my father to deal with.

To top off the whole child-abuse situation at home, I was bullied constantly by classmates for being poor and different. Pushed down the stairs once. Essentially had the same conversation with another counselor.

In college, I once voluntarily signed up for counseling, and was thrown out of the first session because the counselor thought that I was lying about the abuse (you see, I was doing so well in school, and people who get on with their homework can't possibly have home problems!).

Nothing in the arena of negligent school officials (public or private) fucking surprises me anymore. Not even higher education is a refuge.
