You know all those Internet idiots who start whining about censorship and freedom of speech when someone tells them how dumb they are? They need to take a gander at this so they can see what censorship actually looks like.

Well, I for one am glad to see true morality upheld in these United States. Hopefully this will lead potential sinners to bury their true orientation, marry members of the opposite sex, produce children, and God willing, cause generations of heartbreak because of their inability to be a true member of the household they built on lies and self-deception. It's nice to see some legislators still care about family values.

What I don't get is that the way the bill is worded, it sounds like they're trying to keep teachers from discussing sexuality at all, in which case YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT HETEROSEXUALS EITHER.

I mean, I know it's a ploy to push an anti-gay agenda, but since when did heterosexual not refer to a sexual orientation?

How many elementary and middle schools even teach that stuff in the first place? I'm pretty sure that the first time The Gay was mentioned to me in an academic context was high school, and I lived in a pretty liberal area and am not all that old.

Mind you, I'm not saying that this isn't a terrible and stupid thing or that I think homosexuality/bisexuality/etc. shouldn't be talked about in elementary or middle schools. I'm just surprised that it's common enough that they'd bother enacting legislation to block it.

Section 28 was in force in the UK for 15 years, including the whole period I was at school. Obviously it was a success because there are zero gay mid-to-late-20somethings in the UK. FACT. May not be a fact.</a>small</a>

This is w"hat gets me about Republicans. For all their bitching about how Democrats never get anything done, doesn't work fast enough to fix the country, hasn't been doing enough to repair the economy-THEY'RE the ones too busy trying to pass bills about shit that's not the business of anyone except the people directly involved in it (homosexuality, women's reproductive rights, etc.) to actually do anything about the real problems in this country. You can't legislate morality (even for fishy values of "morality.) End of story. If you want to try to teach children to be moral, and have them grow up good Christians (or, yanno, good people in general), might I suggest teaching them to be empathetic, kind, and compassionate to others? I believe that will work a lot better in the long run than trying to forbid the mention of the word gay or the concept of homosexuality in the classroom. But I'm just one of them blasphemous librul non-churchgoing Christians who actually reads her Bible instead of listening to Reverend Bob unquestioningly, so what do I know?

And lo, watch as 10% (give or take) of the kids grow up realizing their sexuality and, if they're fortunate, are comfortable to come out and live that way, anyway, and the moral guardians/legislators wring their hands and wonder how this possibly could have happened because obviously "teh gay is taught!!!11one." Moral of the Story: the words "gay" or "homosexual" are not the real-life equivalent of Billy Batson yelling out "Shazam!"

Well I'm sitting here reading a local newspaper and apparenly this garbage never made it anywhere in the state House and isn't law, if that makes anyone feel better.

Still came too damn close if you ask me, though...
