Pro-choice women lawmakers fight back with amendments of their own.

Why It’s Awesome That Female Lawmakers Are Penning ‘Joke’ Amendments In Response To Anti-Abortion Bills

excerpt from article:
Over the past few weeks, something curious as been happening in the world of reproductive rights. First in Virginia, then in Oklahoma, then in Georgia, female senators have responded to anti-abortion bills by offering up amendments that would affect men’s reproductive health decisions, in a kind of political tit-for-tat.
It all started in January, when Virginia lawmakers introduced a bill that would force pregnant women to get an ultrasound and be afforded the “opportunity” to see it, and to hear the fetal heartbeat, before they could get an abortion. In response, state Senator Janet Howell (D- Fairfax) formally suggested that men should be required to get a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before they could obtain medicine for erectile dysfunction.

I think it's awesome. The comments made me rage, though.

(Hint, if every life is precious, it should include the person who is GIVING BIRTH'S LIFE TOO. But what do I know, my country doesn't dictate medical procedures to women.)

This. It's so hypocritical.

I should not have read that comment about how women who have medical conditions that may cause dangerous pregnancies have an obligation to get their tubes tied.

I don't usually swear, but there are a whole string of words I'd like to say to that miserable excuse for a person.

And when those of us attempt to choose this option, we're denied because we're "too young" or "haven't completed our families yet" or will "change our mind in the future".

It's one or the other, or not both, silly Republicans.

I wish they'd just go back to calling all women "pre-pregnant" with recommendations to behave accordingly. It's gross, but at least they were honest about how they see women.

You're celibate? So was Mary; pre-pregnant. Post-menopausal? See Elizabeth's conception of John the Baptist; pre-pregnant. Had a hysterectomy? WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

(Please tell me someone out there hasn't actually taken the line of reasoning that far...)

Also, for some of us that might not fix the problem we take HBC for. I only have one ovary left, and what with the constant bleeding when I'm not on it I probably could not get pregnant without lots of intervention. BUT I STILL NEED HBC TO HAVE ANY SORT OF PRODUCTIVE LIFE WHAAAARGARBL.

After Rush Limbaugh's latest nonsense, I'd be all for someone putting up a bill to say insurance plans offered for government jobs cannot cover Viagra et al. After all, it's paying for people to have sex, and that's terrible.

I feel I've missed something, she's talking about the need for oral birth control right? What the fuck is Limbaugh talking about, or is he just that stupid to think a woman needs to take a pill every time she has sex?

Seriously, I've know how the pill worked since 12. Why don't they know?
And I can definitely see how nearly any kind of BC available for women can get ridiculously expensive even if they aren't having sex at all. From my own personal experience, before I out right asked for the least expensive prescription they could give me, my own doctor had me on one of the most expensive brands there was.

There's no need to take hormonal BC unless you're having sex, durr, and lots of it!

That's why I was given scripts for BC before I was too young to consensually fuck ANYONE... oh, wait. Hormones: YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN THAT.

Uhg, I know. I'm more than happy to spend the rest of my life a virgin, I'd just really like not having to spend it with periods lasting 31/2 out 4 weeks a month, anemia, and debilitating cramps.

That said, if they're willing to pay for men to have a happy sex life, they better damn well be willing to do the same for women. Too bad there's no way that this will ever be considered the discriminatory bull shit it is.

Hey, exactly the same situation! And you know they're not, because that's not ~feminine~ enough. I mean, what if we got beard hair in the casseroles we spend all day cooking them?

LOL, what he said was disgusting, but it kind of makes me laugh, because my Dad told me about it by texting me "So, did you know that Rush Limbaugh called you a slut?", which led to a very entertaining conversation about the fact that I have yet to actually use my health coverage for BC (I've only been on the Pill for 3 months, and my doc gave me 3 months worth of sample packs rather than writing a prescription, so it's been completely free so far and will be until the end of this week), so I'm not actually going be "getting paid to have sex" until Friday.

Exactly--erectile dysfunction is God's/Nature's way of ensuring that men will devote their later years to imparting wisdom to the grandkids, rather than saddling them with change-of-life nieces and nephews to babysit.

Seems fair to me. That's after all the exact same thing the other side is doing, except they are pretending it's not a joke.

But it is. And it's time that people treat it as such.

Go, Janet Howell :D
