Oh, yes. There were a lot of different rhetorical reactions to it, though I think the Women's Social and Political Union to be the most interesting, given they used reformist terrorist to advocate for the vote. How they justified the turn to militancy played off the assumed gender differences in a way reified the differences while at the same time actively defying them.
