In the words of Jin Wicked: "You better not let me down you hopey fucker!"

Seriously, he's put the bar so high. I'm a cynical bastard, especially with regard to politicians, but he's been pulling the best and the brightest for every post of importance. I think he's got a shot.

My brother texted me with "It's actually happening!" and my response was, ":) :) :) :) :) :)".

My face is stuck like ^_________^

Good fucking riddence, Bush. I hope you haven't fucked up the country beyond repair, and I hope Obama's up to the task of starting to fix things. I know he's not going to have a magic solution for everything- nobody does- but I'm confident that he can start to set things right.

He really showed a willingness to work toward this by including nonbelievers in his inaugural speech, something I don't think we've ever seen mentioned in a speech of that magnitude before. :)

And CNN needs to die.

We watched the feed at work - and were treated to Barbie-Anchor and Lou Dobbs talking and talking and talking over and under and around everything -- talked over Aretha's song, Itzhak and the musicians, talked partially over Biden's swearing in, they cut to a commercial just before the main event, and only just shut their ugly pasty pie-holes so we could hear "-arack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear..." We were furious, and I heard more than one person snap that they would never watch CNN again.

But what else can you expect from the network where a pack of all-white all-male reporters earnestly debated whether or not it was okay to call Hillary Clinton a white bitch?

Ugh, I hate CNN's coverage of shit. My friend is like "WE HAVE TO WATCH THEM FOR ANDERSON COOPER" which I would be fine with if they could shut the fuck up.

Mama and I watched it on CBS, even though we're huge AC fans, just so we'd be able to hear what was going on most of the time (OMG, a piece played by Perlman and Ma and it was John Williams and "Simple Gifts", OMG).

I have to say, I watched it on their online feed that they were doing with facebook and it was remarkably free of talking heads once the shit started. It had a delay of a few seconds, though.

I loathe CNN, I watched it on ABC, and though they did talk between things, they did remain silent through all the music, oaths, invocation, the speech and benediction which I was grateful for.

The girls sitting near me when I was watching pissed me off. They kept talking during his speech, all "He's going to get assassinated within a year." "They only elected him because they hated Bush." "With all those people there, someone could do a lot o damage with a bomb." until I got fed up and left. :|

Oh, wow. I'm suddenly glad the cafeteria worker where I was watching it changed the channel to Fox so that the two tvs in the room would match. Fox, bizarrely, had a very respectful coverage--which is to say that they didn't say a bloody word throughout the whole damn ceremony.

I came home and fell asleep watching the parade, and throughout my dreams, there were CNN commentators going on and on and on, as I incorporated the tv sound into my dreams, and more than once I told dream-people that I wanted to beat the commentators to death with a rock so that they'd just shut UP.

Yay, a slightly less right wing guy replaces a slightly more right wing guy.
Is Rick Warren doing the ceremony now for real?

Either way, over here it's shown in TV more drawn out than a coronation, it's petty ridiculous.

Well done, America. Well done. I think our forefathers are proud.

I was there! Packed in like sardines about three-quarters of the way down the Mall, which means I didn't actually see anything. (Nobody there noticed they messed up the oath, BTW. It's not like we could hear over the cheering; to the extent I caught it I assumed the sound system had screwed up.)

I did spend the ten minutes between Bush's introduction and the swearing-in absolutely convinced that we were all going to be nuked before it actually happened, though.

I came back with very sore muscles, ten American flags, and $13.25 in scavenged Metro tickets, so I'll call that day a win.

So. Fucking. Lucky. You.
