We can has something nice now?
Not at all funny, but wow, it's nice to see someone doing the right thing:

Amidst the grieving, a rare act of sportsmanship

Short version: The captain of a high school basketball team lost his mother. Later that day, there was a game. The captain wanted to play, even though he was grieving. As he wasn't on the pre-game roster, though, the coach letting him play was a technical foul, meaning the opposing team got two free throws. So the captain of the opposing team got up to take his shots--and purposely missed both times.

Occasionally, you need a little hope for humanity, especially on this comm. These guys make me think all the badness doesn't matter as much, because young people know how to do the right thing.

I saw this featured on The Rachel Maddow Show last night. Very awesome.

Same here. I like what she said about it, too-- that the kid said he was just doing the right thing, but it's not always so easy to know the right thing, and to just do it. Good on him and the team.

imo for the same number of fucktards who make others' life hell, there are lots of decent people daily who do not newsworthy but important nice things, like getting out of their way to help a stranger on the road with a damaged car, or anonymously donate, or risk their necks to help someone in danger etc.

I've been bawling for days straight due to sexual assault trauma issues (long story).

This little piece of news just made me smile so much. Thank you.

Thank you. I'm actually feeling a bit better. I had to pull my shit together because my 19 year old cat is dying. Not a traumatic one, it seems, just one that needs a lot of pallative care and stuff. Your own issues tend to fade into the background when an old friend needs you.

She seems to be getting better. I'm not going to jinx it by saying she's out of the woods for now, but she's peeing well (well enough that she pissed right onto my Mum's computer keyboard) and eating and drinking healthily. Jumping up and down tables, going outside for air. She's insane. Old and insane. God love her.

If you get old, you're allowed to be insane. How this affects young and insane cats, I'm not sure.
