Fugly Wank of the Day
This is a couple of days old, but the drama is still going strong and getting crazier by the comment. So, the blog Fugly Horse of the Day's Sunday post features a picture of a toddler in a slightly drooping diaper standing barefoot in a pen brushing an unrestrained foal by a somewhat dubious fence, while two pens over his mother is grooming an older horse, also barefoot and possibly also in nothing but underwear. The caption of the photo seems to be from the mother herself, and reads:
"I was out side grooming my 3 girls today and Joseph wanted to help. And he loves playing with the baby so I gave him a brush and a way he went. This will be Josephs first horse he breaks on his own."

Cathy, the blog's owner, is less than impressed.
Pictures like this make me want to beat the parent in the head with a Pony Club manual. Again, it's not a stuffed toy. It's a 300 lb. unpredictable baby prey animal with sharp little hoofies. It is inches away from turning your child's foot into bloody hamburger, if not knocking him down and doing the same to his face. This isn't cute. This is negligence. If you're a loving parent - and I'm sure you think you are - get him some boots, some jeans, a helmet and a 25 year old pony!

The comments are a mixed bag of horrified reactions, support for the mother, calls for contacting the local Social Services, bashing of Social Services, people who claim the kid is obese, others who think he's at a healthy weight, redneck bashing, redneck defensiveness, people who have a grudge against Cathy, people who have a grudge against people who have a grudge against Cathy, people randomly talking about this one driving accident at a show, something about NASCAR and pit bulls and some stuff about whether Cathy is a hypocrite for not gelding her stallion, and finally it seems that the mother has come in and flipped her shit, although it's hard to tell what she's saying. *gasp-wheeze* Basically, it's just one giant unfunny clusterfuck. So far it spans 413 comments and still seems to be going strong.

ETA: Here are the mother's responses in all of their illegible glory. Thanks to [info]emiweebee for picking up my slack and digging up the first three for me!
ETA2: The woman's phone number has been removed from the main write-up. Damn my short attention span.

First I have to say that Im the PROUD PARENT of JOSEPH.That is not over weight and is in very good health. And as far as WHITE TRASH well gues what we just might be but I love my kids and will always let them be around horses.
As far as my FAT ASS Im proud of my ass and if you dont like it then dont look.
So if any of you would like to meet me and kick my FAT ASS then please feel free to call me and I will be more than happy to meet up with you so we can get this out and open.my number is ***-***-****call me anytime.
As far as the owner of this board if you think your shit dont stink then you need to smell again.Because the funny thing is is that your ASS is probable as big or bigger than my ASS..
= = = = =
Im not putting shoe's on him if he takes them off.So I guess Im just a bad parent that loves her children! But I have had HRS out before and so what Im happy to tell you that they were happy to see my kids with the horses.
But atleast I know that if my son or son's or daughter ever do die or get killed before their time it might just be from a horse rather than drugs. So if it means taking a chance on a horse then drugs well I guess Im just a none caring parent that lets them run around with no fucking shoe's on.What the hell do you think they done in the day before shoe's were around.Hello people wake the hell up and grow up take your kid out of the bubble wrap and let them be a kid.Shit..
= = = = =
He does listen to his parents.Has far as being barefooted I was NOT.So kiss my ass.OH that is right it is right there for you to do.LOL Guy I dont care what you say about me or my horses but when you talk shit about my kids even more so about my 3 year old shits fixing to happen. This back yard redneck BITCH will show you something.Again I gave my number feel free if you can back your words up or sit your FAT ASS in front of your computer and run that mouth.Im game for a go whip ass when it comes to my kids I dont care who you are..So bring it or shut up about my youngings..

And here's her latest response:
To start something else up?Why not!
Joseph was kicked in the the face before this picture was taken.By a horse while he was dressed and has shoe's on.LOL Sorry over the pissiness just flat dont care what you guys thing.Yes I do take in what some are saying and thank you but for the one's that want to trash or bash a now 3 year old boy GO FUCK YOURSELF.Sorry but back to Flying Fig,He was on the outside of a pen while we were all outside and went to pet her and she wheeled around to get away from him and hit the panel just right and split him nose wide open.(Fugly horse if you were to look hard enough you would find it to)LOL..But it was nothing other than an accident. He had plastic surgery with 74 stiches. So yes I have seen it.Anyway I will not be back on here again unless someone again emails me about it being about me and hope all has a good life.
Thank you to the one's that defended my son and kiss my ass to the one's that have nothing better to do other than talk shit about a 3 year old boy..

All I can say is, that poor, poor kid, and that poor, poor foal.

As an ex-pony clubber, can I just say that my reaction is a resounding, DO NOT WANT. OMG, forget about tetanus and broken feet, do you have any idea how many PARASITES those people have by now?! *shudder*

However, I do think the OP's fat comments were unnecessary. I can usually get through about 3 posts of UHOTD before the pretension and privilege send me running away screaming.

Also, I'm terrible at guessing children's ages and have none of my own, but isn't that kid a bit...old to be in diapers?

It seems like the mom is of the persuasion that new riders should get green horses so that "they can learn together". *headdeskheaddeskheaddesk*

I just read the apostrophe chapter of Eats, Shoots and Leaves. Don't worry, the extra apostrophe used here is one that is left out somewhere else. It evens out!

I'm guessing this is a more extreme version of the "you're not a rider until you've fallen off" theory of horse riding.

So kiss my ass.OH that is right it is right there for you to do.

I have to admit, this made me laugh.

Also, for most people, having child services out isn't a normal part of life. From how freely the mom talks about it, I would say it concerns her way less than is appropriate.

Also: they are not criticizing your boy. They are criticizing you.

...If her toddler has his face busted open by a horse to the point where he needed corrective surgery, why the hell is she still letting him run around horses.

Also, does she really think she's proving anything here? "You think my son's in danger?! Well, guess what! YOU ARE SO RIGHT! HA, IN YOUR FACE!"

No. Babies are *not* supposed to look or be pudgy. It's how they end up being fat adults!

Whut?

Warning: Anecdata.

My sister was thin as a rake until her teenage years. She is now a UK size 18. Me, I was a very pudgy baby, and I'm now a UK size 12. But hey, I guess some people think that's fat, it's not a size 4 (US size 0) after all! (I am also totally not bitter that she is still prettier and sexier than me D:)

I'll agree in saying that a baby that is very over-weight is a concern, but a little bit of pudge is not going to do any harm, and may even be a benefit. That baby is only mildly pudgy as far as I can tell. I'd rather my baby be a bit pudgy while it has all that growing to do, than be a bit underweight.

A bit of pudge is actually good for babies. It's called "puppy fat" and they need it to grow.

My mom runs a clinic for malnourished inner-city children and sees babies all the time that are terribly thin. Whenever she sees a healthy child her first response, completely earnest and meant entirely as a compliment, is "what a lovely, fat baby!"

So many degrees to her name and I can barely take her anywhere >

...what. Love =/= willingly putting them in danger because you don't want to tell them "no."

Also, being around horses =/= inability or unwillingness to do drugs.
