What the fuck is wrong with people??
According to the UK tabloid The Sun, a 10-year-old girl from Cornwall posted obscene messages on the profile of a girl she knew while pretending to be an older male pederast. A relative of the victim went to police, and then the police issued a local warning. According to authorities, the 10-year-old came forward to her parents and admitted she was culprit after the warning was released. A Cornwall police spokesman said, "It was more cyber-bullying than paedophilia. It seems to be an isolated issue between these two youngsters."

TEN YEARS OLD. Jesus.

That's, um...well, I suppose it was better than the reverse.

That was my first thought too but still, what the hell?

And I can't help thinking it's going to make it even harder to catch or maybe even to prosecute real paedophiles if people go around pretending to be them.

And 10 years old just... ick.

How'd she even know to do that?

I feel sick saying it but maybe she got some messages herself. :/

A lot of kids these days are told what to watch out for when they use the internet. She was probably parroting back what she had been told pedophiles say.

*nods* A part of me wonders why this hasn't happened over here, because we're up to HOW many NBC "to catch a predator" specials by now?...

I hope so. God, I hope so, because I the minute I read this I was wondering why there wasn't an inquiry into why this little girl could convincingly pretend to be a child predator, though perhaps it will come up as she is interviewed.

Does To Catch a Predator get broadcast in the UK?

I don't think so. It might be on a satellite channel.

At 10, I was more than aware of the workings of sex. All you need to do is wander into a "romance" chat room one too many times, and then research what you're being told.

THE INTERNET IS AMAZING, GAIS!

When I was 10, my friends and I would go into adult chatrooms on AOL trolling for guys, and then cyber with them. We thought it was hilarious and we would all take turns with the keyboard. I am surprised this is not more widespread.

Hey! Me and my friend used to do that, too. Well, it was mostly her, pretending she was 17 and from California.

Then we'd get Pay-per-view porn and turn the TV on and off while giggling hysterically.

When I was 10 there was no internet (well, no WWW anyway) and I can't say I feel like I was worse off for that.

I think I know how you feel.

Though now that I remember it my friend who was about 12 tried yelling her number into the empty space when you call for the time (long story, you can't even call for the time here anymore) and got a guy calling her back to ask if she wanted to get laid.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

I saw the “10 years old” line and thought this was a link to the article about the minister in Montreal who created his own church and then married a 10 year old girl.

So much DO NOT WANT.

Sadly the first thing I thought was "pederast" + "girl" = incorrect terminology. THEN I registered and went:

10 PRINT DO NOT WANT
20 GO TO 10
30 RUN

Daaaaaaaamn, my parents wouldn't even let me use the internet till I was like 13 or 14.

Although, I do remember "Prodigy", no chatrooms, just message boards. I used to watch my sister post stuff about Nintendo and the Legend of Zelda games. And I'd occasionally be allowed to peruse the Sesame Street website they had up... Rofl
