Having "strange" triggers is completely understandable, sure. Memory works in odd ways. But what it comes down to is this:
Where do we draw the line? Should I have to warn for every innocuous object mentioned in my fic, just for that one special snowflake who's triggered by lampshades or roast beef? I feel badly for those who have unique, seemingly innocuous triggers, but you can't expect the real world (or the internet, much less) to accommodate the whims of every single person. If you are legitimately freaked out by something as commonplace as hands, I think it's time to either a) lock yourself in a small room for the rest of eternity so you never have to see someone else's hands again or b) go get some professional help ASAP. Just sayin.

Dude, no one is demanding that everyone everywhere tag their triggers. The people making a big huge deal about the seriousness of triggers are the HSO mods, and they've apparently decided to personally take on the responsibility of trying to tag everyone [in the HSO]'s triggers, and they're going to do it whether the HSO participants play along or not, and it's their show, so whatever. It's not like getting professional help automatically fixes everyone's triggers, either, why is that always what people say in response to people having weird triggers?

This is just a combination of:
- mods being way too enthusiastic about the trigger issue and inadvertently handling things badly
- participants who may not really understand what triggers are (this is a near-constant issue in Homestuck fandom already)
- people being offended by people not knowing how triggers work who are busy going "lol couch cushions"
- mods being hypersensitive to impending wank and overreacting to some of the trigger discussion

My 2 cents, anyway.

Where do we draw the line?

Why is this always peoples' biggest concern when upsetting and hurtful shit is brought up? It's never, "how do I not upset/hurt people", it's always, "where do we draw the line". I never get this.
