Re: (unfunny comms) SF_drama blows up BIG time...
you ever hear people saying that social justice issues and the concept of privilege are being misused simply to score points and put people down?
Yeah, I see that a lot. It's usually said by people excusing, for example, transphobia (picking it since it personally affects me). The accusation is usually that everyone criticizing just wants to be popular, somehow.
I haven't seen how it made anyone popular, though. Those who get popular are, oddly, always the transphobic douchebags. Often FOR their transphobia, which is considered edgy or "courageous". So, sorry for not buying it.
It's a red herring. The number of people who actually use it to score points (with who, exactly?) is barely in the double digits.
To be honest, the number of people complaining about this seem to outnumber the actual problem by, oh, a thousand to one. It's almost as if it was mostly a made-up issue to defend prejudiced, harmful behavior. By far the overwhelming majority of people complaining tend to be actually affected by the issue in question.
It's just easier to pretend that we don't exist and are all pretending so we can be dismissed.
