Gotta love how slanted the report is.

And how the usual "it's not a big deal, just sexual harassment, stop overdramatising" brigade is already swooping in.

Was the woman upset with it? No? Then it's not sexual harassment.

Gotta love how the moral police feels the need to push their bs on everyone else.

The report states that two people were offended enough to complain to management. It doesn't make much of a difference if the woman the remark was addressed to wasn't bothered by it if other customers in the area were made to feel uncomfortable.

Oh my god how dare you call me disgusting, I am so offended.

People saying the word "nigga" offends me, so does this mean anyone that uses that word should be fined and/or jailed? Maybe we should charge them with hate crimes as well.

... What? Are you saying the word disgusting is offensive and people should be jailed because it's as offensive as a racist term?

You're making no sense.

That's not how these things work. Sexual crimes and misdemeanors are not determined by the victims' reactions but by the aggressors' actions.

So telling silly, mischevious joke now constitutes as sexual crime. Good to know I've been sexually harrassing my friends, and they me, for years.

This person wasn't a friend. This wasn't a social occasion.

It's not appropriate for department store Santas to tell sexually suggestive jokes for all sorts of reasons, including making shoppers feel uncomfortable when all they wanted was a picture of their kid with a holiday icon, not the midnight Dean Martin show.

AYRT

I mentioned sexual crimes and misdemeanors. Why did you focus only on crime?

Also, as the other Anon mentioned, how one behaves around one's friends usually is (and should be) different from how one can be expected to behave around strangers and customers. That's even what the word "friend" means: that they are not strangers anymore. So comparing how you act with your friends to how this man acted towards a female customer is not a valid argument at all.

WTF. Silly "sexual harassment" victims, not knowing what is REALLY good for 'em! Denying they're SEXUALLY HARASSED even when I tell them they are! D: Can't they see the truth?!

... Or maybe it was just a JOKE and nobody except perfect strangers to the scene ever complained, because it was a JOKE. You know, like something said JOKINGLY. And nobody care about.

Eck, if every joke-making guy - and gal - in the world was sexually harassing people every time they tell a sexual joke to a friendly stranger, half the world would be a sexual harasser. Sense of proportion, plz learn you some.

... Or maybe it was just a JOKE and nobody except perfect strangers to the scene ever complained, because it was a JOKE.

You're making my point: this joke was said by a stranger to a stranger in front of strangers, which is why it was totally inappropriate. It is never appropriate for a stranger to make such sexual jokes out of the blue to another stranger in front of yet more strangers. How hard is this to understand?

You know, like something said JOKINGLY. And nobody care about

Except that some people DID care. That's the whole POINT of the matter!

Eck, if every joke-making guy - and gal - in the world was sexually harassing people every time they tell a sexual joke to a friendly stranger,

A. Being friendly to Santa is not the same as inviting sexual jokes from a complete stranger.

B. Having a pattern of telling sexual jokes out of the blue to strangers is actually one of the definitions of being a sexual harrasser. It's not right or funny; it's horribly creepy and wrong, and also illegal in quite a few places.

So what you're saying is, wimmens are too stupid to know when they're being sexually harassed and we need you big, brave, strong people to tell us when we are.

Oh were would we be without you people around to tell us how and when to be offended.

AYRT

I'm a woman. And this isn't about telling a woman when she's being sexually harrassed: it's about telling everyone (men and women alike) that it's not all right to make sexual jokes to strangers who have not invited them.

Just because some people are fine with something, doesn't mean that this thing is always all right and should systematically be dismissed.

I actually agree that it's not sexual harassment, but it's still highly inappropriate sexual behaviour. A woman going to see a public Santa should not have to expect to be the target of such sexual innuendo, nor should anyone witnessing a public Santa interacting with a customer have to expect such a scene.

It's not appropriate for a department store Santa to make sexually suggestive jokes to customers, even though it's not a pattern of harassment.

Don't be silly. Any time a male says something sexual to a woman, unless he has her written and vocal permission, it is sexual harassment. Any woman who doesn't think so is clearly a victim of this patriarchal hetero-normative society and must be protected from herself by people willing to fight the good fight.

Guy I don't know makes sexual comment to me in public when I have never indicated I want him to.

Even if I didn't personally mind- and I doubt I would- I'd consider it offensive in principle, because I might have done and he didn't care enough about that possibility to moderate his behaviour. (Or her, women can do it too.)

How the hell is that not... seriously, how is it not sexual misconduct?
