I think it's about something else.

If Turimel convinces everyone that thanfiction is really this master liar scammer that, if YOU had talked to them, would have gotten YOU scammed too...

...then it wasn't Turimel's fault for being scammed! She wasn't naive, it wasn't her fault, thanfiction was just that good!

She seems to be the type that blames everyone else, and if she has to lie herself to make that blame stick, so be it.
