Lordy, I think this is the worst tuesday maintenance ever. I keep telling myself not to get my hopes up about playing in Northrend on thursday, but, y'know.

So while we're waiting just to play WoW (actually, it's gotten so late I might have to go to bed before the realms come back up), let alone WotLK, what are everyone's immediate plans for release day?

My server is pretty small, so I'm nursing hopes of being able to maybe do some quests, or at least run around picking up quests and flight paths. Failing that, I'd like to get my five 70's to Northrend to buy their professions skills at least. I also want to tame a Jormungar worm on my hunter; I fell in love with the furry purple monsters on the beta.

Gotta get to Dalaran and get new shirt recipes.... @_@

RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED WHOO! November 13th, aren't we all excited! And non-Americans aren't getting fucked over for the release date, either.

Friday:
Today's comic is a chuck wagon of unpleasant realities.

We constructed a guild specifically to play World of Warcraft in a reasonable way, with a focus on five-man instances and a schedule that was compatible with human lives. The trouble is that the rewards for doing the more elaborate raids are almost nonsensical by comparison, ridiculous. I'm not talking about bosses, or middle management, or whoever is being gutted tonight. Even their undead pool man, a Goddamned civilian, drops a ancient, spiked crown that peers deep the future.

So, you build your organization out to grasp that fruit. For a time, you aren't jiggered for five mans, because now you have eight. And once the tens have arrive, you have thirteen. It's some magical Goddamned ratio, written into existence, that ensures human suffering.

Fuck the rest of this shit. I want our next President to have managed a guild.

Monday:
I was looking over the patch notes for World of Warcraft 3.0.2 on the public test realm - the ones that aren't even complete yet - and they're fucking ridiculous. When they said you'd need to spend a billion dollars to beat these guys, I assumed it was like raising your hackles, or thrashing your venomous tail - a predator's warning on entering its territory. Maybe its closer to an actual fact.

The alterations here are vast, but this is only the most recent reinvention. The World of Warcraft people are playing now isn't the one they launched, the one that was so unstable we had to withdraw our earlier praise. It isn't any of the innumerable alterations they've made to classes, or raids, or any of the savvy swipes they've made from user modifications. The game is a completely living document. How do you design against it? And even if you wanted to play something else, who would you play it with? Everyone you know is raiding tonight.

I am eternally in love with Tycho's insight.

The maintainers believe that doing so sabotages the community feeling that seems to come naturally to [info]wow_ladies, and we would therefore appreciate it if, you know, you didn't. This change will be reflected in the userinfo and of course, like all new rules, will not be retroactive (that wouldn't be fair).

From here.

I... don't know what to say to this, other than the old stand-by: please, no wow_ladies bashing.
So, I'm in the market for a new guild. There's nothing wrong, exactly, with my current one, but I've been in the guild for months and have come to notice that there's a sense that if you haven't been there since they raided BWL, you don't count. I'm not alone in this sense -- my boyfriend and his brother are also hideously frustrated by the current policies. So I'm looking for something different. Anyone know a good guild horde-side on a pve realm -- hopefully one looking for a raiding tank? I'd really appreciate having a guild master who didn't believe "ladies" are too delicate to listen to swearing.

(btw, this is my girl)

What to do with fireworks?

Sorry for dragging this poor comm back from the dead, but I find myself requiring suggestions from fellow players, and this is probably the nicest and least wanky place to come ask. ^^ I'm trying to think of an event for my casual/social guildmates.

My main blood elf tankadin has a bank bag absolutely full of fireworks left over from the Lunar Festival. As an engineer, he also can make the firework launchers, so I can pretty much throw a firework party anywhere. I've always wanted to launch fireworks from the top of a Zangarmarsh mushroom while putting out a Romantic Picnic Basket, the new Brazier, and just generally have a party for my guildees. The problem is that, as fun as that might be, there's not much incentive for people to come out and do it. It's not like I could suggest it as a fun time to hang out and chat, we do that in guild chat all the time anyway. ;-)

Thus, I'm trying to get feedback and think of an actual *event* to put on along with these fireworks, either involving the fireworks themselves somehow or just having them in the background while we do... something else. XD In other words, what the heck should I do with them, or arrange to go along with them? So far, the only ideas I've come up with are these:
1) Have a "fashion show" where everyone comes out in their favorite vanity sets/clothing/tabards and the best entrant gets a Mechanical Squirrel or something; the fireworks could be for fun/show.

2) Set up a raid of an alli town and have everyone congregate on the firework launchers; several PvP fans in the guild have suggested this.

3) Save them for something major like, say, downing Zul'jin for the first time and set them off on his corpse. Downside to this is that I have to carry around fireworks instead of my healing set. ;-)

4) Play "Hide and Seek" with me hiding somewhere, setting off fireworks, and people have to come find me. Of course, the fact they can see which zone I'm in would make that sort of silly... >.>

Would anyone else be able to give me any ideas? I'm on a regular PvE server (no RP sadly) but PvP is an option. I'd love to hear what wankas would suggest... Please help, as the fireworks are burning a hole in my bank and I need more bank/bag space for Yet Another Tanking Set. ;-)

I had the most awesome BG today. My belf paladin is named Milliardo, after a character in Gundam Wing (although I didn't go for the hair that matches his). Today Milliardo did yesterday's daily BG in Alterac Valley, and we ran into a Heero! Also a belf and a paladin. So I followed him around and healed him, and then we won.

Winter Veil

It's that time of year again-- the season of holly and jolly and other things ending in -olly. How's everyone's Winter Veil so far? I've made a killing on cookies and expressed mild annoyance that the only character to get any free patterns in the mail was my hunter, who I don't play much anymore. :/ Le sigh. I'm also waiting to see if there are any new gifts from Greatfather Winter and eagerly awaiting the 25th when I can open presents and slaughter bosses for their festive headgear. I haven't done the Greench quest yet, but my current server is underpopulated so hopefully it won't be as nightmarish as it used to be on Blackrock.

Also, the graphic for the Hot Apple Cider looks delicious. I want to curl up in front of the fire with a cup and some mage cinnamon rolls and pwn n00bs in AV.

Hoping for some advice

So I have somewhat of a problem, and was hoping for advice. Feel free to delete if this isn't on-topic enough, but ... I can't find advice anywhere else. I would ask on WoW_ladies over on LJ, only there was recently wank where someone got /gkick'd for something she posted on WoW_ladies ... so ...
I am trying to make this as coherent as possible. If you think you need more info, just ask.
Here's the deal: my main is a level 60ish draenei shaman (Shadow Council, anyone?). I do have numerous alts, and I think it is relaxing to sign on and level those now and again - a level 16 quest on a new class is interesting, and takes less time than on a level 63 character. Etc, etc. I don't spend a huge amount of time in-game, however, so I am not leveling fast. This does not bother me at all. I play WoW to have fun and have no desire to be in a raiding guild. I want to get to 70, but there's no real rush.
The problem is that recently our GL left and handed the guild to someone else. This someone else wants a good deal more from us, including "devotion to upgrading gear by running instances, signing onto the forums every day before coming in-game, helping lowbies level, and making the guild's priorities your priorities" (this is paraphrasing, not the actual post). Is this BAD? No, not at all! Helping out your guildies and progressing along are both very reasonable goals.
So far, I have not been a drag on my guild! I have never asked for help monetarily or with instance runs, or taken materials from the guild bank. This was perfectly reasonable before. Maybe things will settle down and it will be acceptable again, but in the meantime, I am getting the impression that I am not showing enough devotion to the guild. And signing in to be told that you missed helping run someone through a lowbie instance and aren't helping out enough is not ... relaxing ...
Am I being unreasonable? And is this perhaps not the best guild for me? I don't know of any that are so laid-back, and I really like signing on and talking to people. Besides which, I do not want to leave a trail of drama, and getting /gkick'd? Dramatastic.

Any advice at all would be helpful.
