A wank report about the webcomic Achewood has devolved speedily into Your Thoughts On Achewood- and as of this writing, it hasn't even broken 90 comments yet! and it's barely begun!

Think of it this way: When was the last time someone pointed out how Smallville, Supernatural, Torchwood, or any of the other mediocre sci-fi/fantasy shows that turn up here so frequently are, in fact, awful? Think of it as "other fandoms, other rooms" day here.

I freely admit Achewood isn't for everyone; it really doesn't bug me all that much to see people who don't get it. What does bug me is claims of "it's not funny" from people who think that tired-ass catchphrases and worn-out memes ("your thoughts on yaoi," "boobies!", etc.) are high-larious.

Somehow, the meta in which many viewers cheerfully admit that Torchwood is awful/Supernatural has skanky race and gender issues/Smallville is awful in variously defined ways still leave me thinking those shows have more virtues than Achewood. You know, despite [info]hooverdam's spirited defense.

My reactions to this wank:

1. I lol'd like crazy at Seiberwing's *is helpless*.

2. They're cats? What the freaking hell? Where are their tails?

3. I especially liked Hooverdam's "And sometimes? Sometimes they're just there, man" review.

4. Think of it this way: When was the last time someone pointed out how Smallville, Supernatural, Torchwood, or any of the other mediocre sci-fi/fantasy shows that turn up here so frequently are, in fact, awful? Think of it as "other fandoms, other rooms" day here. I think we diss shit in their FW posts all the time, so I'm not really seeing the comparison. Also:

5. I'm deeply in love with Supernatural. And Dean. Particularly Dean. Send help.

I don't get the whole "Achewood fans =/= tired meme fans", as there is a whole story arc about lolcats for the love of fuck. And, personally, this Achewood fan loves the hell out of that story arc.

What does bug me is claims of "it's not funny" from people who think that tired-ass catchphrases and worn-out memes ("your thoughts on yaoi," "boobies!", etc.) are high-larious.

I can't help it. All I can think in response to this is "JUST LIKE YOUR VAGINA!"

Obviously I have great and intelligent discussion points to contribute.
