	I do have a problem with being told I shouldn't voice any issues I might actually have, especially on a comm like Fandom Wank. Because Fandom Wank of all places is where you should be airing your issues about religions. Also...isn't Mormonism Christianity, technically? (Reply to this)(Thread)

Back when I was dating a Mormon, one of the women in choir with me used to try to get me to convert him because "They aren't really Christians! It's a cult!" and was unhappy with my answer that I hated it when people tried to convert me so I was going to give him the same courtesy. Now if only he'd extended that same courtesy back :-/

But anyway, she had some idea about space aliens and God not really existing or something. I'm pretty sure she got Scientology and LDS confused.

	I seem to remember the ex-BF telling me, "If we get married here [the Temple in Utah, I think, though I was reading or watching TV or something at the time] it means we're married for all eternity! 	That's nothing: when I was 18, my boyfriend had already set the date for a wedding I had not agreed to. It was supposed to be a few weeks before a presidential election in which he wanted to run. Bringing your wife through the veil I've heard referenced in Carolyn Jessop's book Escape, and in numerous stories on Recovery from Mormonism, a huge collection of ex-mormons who pretty much talk about their problems with both the faith and leaving it, and many of them have done a lot of digging into Mormon theology. The whole veil thing is a part of all the temple weddings I've ever heard of.

Not to say you're lying at all, but I swear I've heard it from sources I believe. I just don't want you to think I'm talking magic Mormon smack that's in vogue >.>

	Interesting! I've been wondering lately, because I've been learning about Witnesses (in a comparative sort of way) and for whatever reason hadn't realized they were Christian. I wondered about Mormons because I didn't know if extra book = different religion, because isn't that part of why Islam is Islam and not Christianity? Additional teachings? My understanding is that Islam, Christianity and Judaism are all separate because they disagree on who the Messiah is. For Muslims it's Mohammad, for Christians it's Jesus and the Jews are still waiting for one. (There's also another small Judaic religion who believe John the Baptist was the Messiah, but I've forgotten what they're called.) I could be completely wrong but I thought Mormons recognised Jesus as the Messiah and Joseph Smith (is that his name?) as a prophet, so still Christian. Or so I thought. There could be something I'm missing.
