A tiny wank nibblet
So. Kanye West acts like a complete tool at an awards ceremony and interrupts award winner Taylor Swift's acceptance speech by proclaiming that Beyonce's video was better (fandom_lounge thread here, with more details).

Everyone calls Kanye a tool, assigns due props to Swift, Beyonce, and even Pink, all that jazz. Suddenly, [info]cat_mcdougall cries havoc and lets slip the thoughts on yaoi:

(Personally, I think Kanye's outburst was because Taylor is pale blonde, white, thin (very thin) and I think she has blue eyes - meaning, Aryan Ideal. Beyonce, while well toned, and very fit... is none of those things. Reverse racism? Maybe?)

I'm not even surprised about this viewpoint since the comments on this article are a mash of "REVERSE RACISM" and "THIS BACKLASH IS ONLY HAPPENING BECAUSE KANYE'S OMG BLACK!!!1!!11!"

I can kind of see where the former concern is coming from, though. I can't think of any similar instances off the top of my head where both parties involved were white, so I can't compare the reaction to this to anything else, but if people are already jumping to say ~REVERSE RACISM~ then race is factoring into how some people react to what Kanye did.

You know, speaking as a PoC, people who conform to the Aryan Ideal are people too, you know. Just being blonde, blue-eyed and skinny doesn't automatically make you a Nazi.

Granted, Kanye was being a dick; but he's had this weird-ass abusive relationship with the rest of the world, so most of the time I ignore him.

He makes okay music, but that doesn't excuse dickish behavior one bit.

Yeah but what does that have to do with what Kanye did? Not saying that Taylor Swift deserved to be treated that way, but seriously, what does "WHITE PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE TOO" have anything to do with what happened? Why does that need to be pointed out?

I wrote a comment asking you for a link to where anyone said something in support of Mr. West's actions, because "maybe we don't need to cite this as the systematic oppression of White people" is hardly the same statement as "he struck a blow against the Man by taking down that little White girl", but then I saw how you blew off Microclimate, and I think I begin to see the game you're playing. Setting yourself as the safe PoC vs the scary ones over there will eventually get old, though. You can trust me on that, too.
