Getting started list
I wrote up a small resource list on IJ on helping to find your own feet there.
I'm interested in doing something similar for JF.
However I use JournalFen more for meta-pan-fandom type things than individual so my resource listmight be is a bit biased, anyone have any suggestions?
Why JournalFen?
Journalfen is a vibrant, intelligent, snarky community. The admins have already made a point of protecting free speach, even when, and especially when, they don't actually care for the community or individuals involved.
But I don't like fandom_wank!
Then don't join it! Although a notable part of JournalFen, and a place where many people get their start are the *wank communities, RPG's have been noted to actually make up the majority.
But I do like fandom_wank!

fandom_discuss - for talking about fandom issues. Like, what are your thoughts on yaoi? Do female characters get treated unfairly?
fandom_lounge - for posting random fandom things, from that funny vid, to pimping a new challenge comm, to talking about articles in the news.
mina_de_malfois - Mina de Malfois is an original fictional creation. It's vastly entertaining.
Not fandom
random_lounge - like fandom_lounge only more random, less fandom.
feline_lounge - like the above only less random, more cats.
ask - where you can ask about anything.
Like fandom wank only not
Non-affiliated but somewhat related.

I don't actually know of any fandom specific comms other than cornfield and don't think that counts. =/
