» How do I create a community? You must already have a journal on Journalfen to create a community. Make sure you're signed into the journal you wish to use as the community maintainer and go to http://www.journalfen.net/community/cre For information on managing your communities, see http://www.journalfen.net/support/faqbr Last Updated: » How do I manage my communities? To see all communities you currently administer, log in and go to http://www.journalfen.net/community/man You can change community info, settings, invitations, and membership options using the links next to each community name. If you have a closed or moderated membership community, you can decide whether or not to have requests for memberships e-mailed to you on this page as well. You can see members who want to join the community, and accept or deny their inclusion in your community, at http://www.journalfen.net/community/pen Last Updated: » What am I able to do as a community owner? To do any of the following, you'll need to make sure you're signed in under the community maintainer's journal. Once you're signed in, go to the community management page: http://www.journalfen.net/community/man You'll find a list of all communities you manage, as well as links to take you to pages that will allow you to choose how your community will operate. You can: Decide if you'll allow people to be able to join without your (or another moderator's) permission or whether you have to approve them first. Decide if you'll allow everyone who joins to be able to post to the community (this means their journal entry page will include your community on their drop down menu allowing them to post directly to the community) or only some people. Decide if you'll allow non-members to post to your community. (They do this by going to the community info page and clicking on the little blue pencil near the top of the page.) Decide if you'll allow posts to appear immediately or require your (or another moderator's) approval before they show up. Approve members. Remove members. Allow members posting access and/or maintainer status. If your community's posts are moderated, you can allow some members to post unmoderated and/or assign them or others as moderators to allow posts, without giving them maintainer status. View and approve posts waiting to be posted. If you have a community with moderated membership or posts, you can have an email sent to you to notify that someone is requesting membership or a post is waiting for approval. Last Updated: » How can I let my community members join in the wonder of tag-making? To allow people other than the community maintainer(s) to edit or create tags, go to http://www.journalfen.net/manage/tags.b Switch to the appropriate community and hit the "switch" button. Then, you can change the permissions under "Tag Settings". Last Updated: » What do all those setting choices mean? Membership --Open membership means that anyone can join your community just by clicking on the "join this community" link at the top of the community info page. No further action on your part is necessary. --Moderated membership means that--after clicking on the "join the community" link--the hopeful member must wait for you to approve their request. You can do so by visiting your community management page or you can adjust your settings to receive emails when someone is requesting membership. You can approve right from the emails, or go to the community management page where you'll see a number next to the "members" link telling you how many requests are waiting. --Closed membership means that no one may join the community without an invitation. Posting Access --All members: Anyone who has joined the community can post entries to the community via their own journal. (A drop down menu near the bottom of the post will allow the user to choose to post in their own journal or a journal belonging to a community of which they're a member. --Select members: Only members given permission by the maintainer (through the "members" link on the community management page) can post in the community. Non-Member Posting: --Non-members cannot post. --Non-members can post in the community by going to the community info page and clicking on the little blue pencil icon near the top of the page. Moderation --Undermoderated: A post will appear immediately on the community main journal page when the poster clicks on "update journal" (from their own journal), as long as they have chosen the community in the "post to" drop down menu. --Moderated: A post requires approval before showing up on the community page. You can choose to have an email sent to you when a post is waiting for approval and either approve the post from the email or go to the community management page to do so.
