» How do I stop my journal from appearing on search engines?

There is no 100% bulletproof way to ensure that your journal and/or content will not show up on a search engine. However, most of the time you'll have success by blocking spiders and robots. To do this, go to Edit > Personal Info & Settings. When logged on, find it here:

http://www.journalfen.net/editinfo.bml

Scroll toward the bottom of the page until you see:

Block Robots/Spiders from indexing your journal
If you check this option, robots will be told to go away. Not all robots respect the rules.

This is also a good time to check and see if your email address is "mangled", which will keep robots from pulling it from your page to use for spam.

» How do I keep spammers from pulling my email from my User Info page?

The only way to keep human spammers from getting your email address is to choose not to display it. If you're not concerned about human spammers, you might want to consider "mangling" your displayed email address to keep out nasty email-collecting robots. To change your display properties or mangle your displayed address, go to Edit > Personal Info & Settings. (Login and go to:)

http://www.journalfen.net/editinfo.bml

To choose whether or not to display your contact information, scroll down toward the bottom until you see:

Show your contact information on your LiveJournal?

Click the box next to the question to allow people to see your email address, AIM screen name, etc. You can also choose whether to show it to everybody or just friends.

Next you'll see:

Mangle your displayed email address.

If you have the "show contact" option selected and are afraid spam-robots will find your email address on LiveJournal, select this option. Your email address will be modified so your email address won't be found by email-collecting robots.
