» Can I edit/delete/screen a comment I posted or that was posted in my journal?

Although journal entries can be edited OR deleted (see http://www.JournalFen.net/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=2), comments on journal entries can ONLY be deleted or screened, not edited.

You can delete a comment if one of the following is true:

1) You posted the comment yourself.
2) Someone else posted the comment in your journal.
3) Someone else posted the comment in a community journal which you maintain.
4) You, or someone else, posted the comment to an entry you made in a community journal.

Depending on where the comment is, you must be logged in (http://www.JournalFen.net/login.bml) as the poster of the comment, the owner of the journal, or the maintainer of the community to delete a comment.

To delete a comment, click the button with the red "X" on it, and confirm your intention to delete the comment. The next page you see should report that the deletion was successful.

You can screen a comment if one of the following is true:

1) Someone else posted the comment in your journal.
2) Someone else posted the comment in a community journal which you maintain.
3) You, or someone else, posted the comment to an entry you made in a community journal.

Depending on where the comment is, you must be logged in (http://www.JournalFen.net/login.bml) as the owner of the journal, or the maintainer of the community to screen a comment.

To screen a comment, click the eye icon with the red line through it, and confirm your intention to screen the comment. If the screening is successful, you will be taken to a page that reports the success. Full details on the comment screening option can be viewed at http://www.JournalFen.net/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=134. To unscreen a screened comment, click the eye icon (which doesn't have a red line through it), and confirm your intention to unscreen the comment.

If you wish to delete, screen, or unscreen more than one comment at a time, you can use the "Mass Action" option at the bottom of the comment page. Select the comments you wish to perform the action upon by checking the boxes at the right of the eye icon, and then use the drop down box at the bottom of the page to select the action you wish to perform. Confirm your choice by clicking the "Perform Action" button.

When you use the "Mass Action" option, you will not receive a confirmation screen as you would if you chose to perform the actions on comments individually. Be especially careful when choosing to mass delete comments, as there is no way to retrieve them once they have been deleted.

» How do I prevent anonymous people from commenting in my journal?

Go to http://www.Journalfen.net/editinfo.bml and find the option labeled "Who can reply to your entries?". You will need to adjust this setting in order to prevent anonymous comments in your journal.

Alternatively, you could choose to screen anonymous comments by default; for more information on your comment screening options, please see http://www.journalfen.net/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=134 .

» How do I disable commenting in my journal?

To disable commenting in your journal, go to http://www.JournalFen.net/editinfo.bml and uncheck the option labeled "Enable message boards," which is found near the bottom of the page, then click "Save Changes".

You also have the option to disable comments on individual entries, while leaving commenting enabled for the rest of your journal. Using the web client, you can do this from the full version of the Update Journal page at http://www.JournalFen.net/update.bml?mode=full. While posting or editing the entry, check the box marked "Disallow Comments" to disable comments on that entry only. If you are disabling comments on an entry that already has comments, these comments will then become invisible.

Many clients available for download include the ability to disable commenting on individual entries. For more information on your preferred client, consult its documentation or its menu options.

If you would like to block comments from a particular person, but still receive comments from others, see http://www.JournalFen.net/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=20.

If you would like to keep comments enabled, but want to stop receiving notification emails, see http://www.JournalFen.net/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=91.

» How do I ban/unban a user from commenting in my journal?

If you're having problems with a certain user, but you'd still like to allow comments by other people who aren't on your Friends List, you can ban the specific user from posting comments in your journal. To be effective, you should also prevent anonymous commenting, as described in http://www.JournalFen.net/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=23

*

To ban a user:

* After you delete a comment from any JournalFen user, a checkbox shows up that lets you ban them. If that is selected, that user will be unable to leave further comments in your journal.

* If you want to ban a specific JournalFen user without having to delete one of their comments, you can ban them using the Admin Console (http://www.JournalFen.net/admin/console/). First, make sure you are already logged in, then go to the console and enter this command:

ban_set

Do not enter the < or > symbols; these are only for reference purposes. Replace with the username of the person you want to ban.

*

To unban a user:

* Go to http://www.JournalFen.net/editinfo.bml (where you can also control lots of other options). Look for the "Unban Users" section near the bottom of the page. Check off the username of the user you want to unban and click "Save Changes".

* You can also use the Admin Console (http://www.JournalFen.net/admin/console/) to unban a user. First, make sure you are already logged in, then go to the console and enter this command:

ban_unset

Do not enter the < or > symbols; these are only for reference purposes. Replace with the username of the person you want to unban.

» How can I turn off/on comment notification e-mails?

Go to http://www.journalfen.net/manage/comments/

Scroll down to the "Receive email notifications when others comment" option, which should currently have a check mark in it, and click the box to remove it.

Voila!

To turn them back on, click the box again.
