Is account creation open? No. Account creation is usually closed. We open it occasionally, but for the most part it is closed, to keep from our growth becoming too rapid. If you know a paid user, you can ask that user to request a free level journal for you. Or you can ask a paid user to advocate for you for a free account at one of two places:
