Original Request:
It's readily apparent that journalfen hasn't been especially stable lately. I assume this will go to a volunteer, but I'm hoping you'll have more information anyway. Does anyone know why the servers are having so many issues? Is it related to the DDOS attacks awhile back on twitter and other social networking sites? And are ZR and Robin still around? I'm on journalfen for a pretty big proportion of my day, and I'm worried about it. Is there something people can do to help?

Actually, we are around. I don't spend a good proportion of the day here, but I do pop in every day a couple times, to see real-time service display. I know we had a half day outage early in the month, and we had a sluggish period a couple days ago, but I hadn't noticed the service was unstable, and nobody has said anything.
Can you give me more detail of when you experience issues, what you're experiencing when you do, and how frequently it happens?
I haven't seen anything odd come up in the server monitoring I have on the JF servers, and every time I've dropped in, things have popped right up for me, so I need more detail to go from here.
Thank you!

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I’m so glad that you guys are still running the site!
As to the issues I’ve been experiencing, every couple of days lately I seem to get sorry there was a problem errors. A lot of the time the page just won’t load. And recently I’ve started getting Server 500 errors sometimes. Someone from one of my communities copied the text:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@journalfen.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
The errors last for hours at a time. Sometimes it’s possible to push through if you refresh a lot. Other times it’s almost impossible to actually get a comment through or load a journal/community. When it gets that extreme, some of the communities to move to back up journaling sites until Journalfen is reachable again. I’ve pulled some time dates from refuge communities on other sites from when we moved over. All of these lasted at least a few hours, some almost a day, and usually were preceded by people trying to push through the errors for a little while first.

That’s mostly it for this month. I guess I’m concerned because it’s not usually this bad. I think the last time any of my communities refuges elsewhere before August was at the beginning of July. I’m used to the site being slow sometimes, but this month has been particularly bad.

Thank you for gathering info for me! I'll run through the logs on all of the servers and see if I can find some events that match with these problems. I guess I just haven't seen issues at the random times I've dropped in. And I haven't received any alerts from the server monitoring, so I suppose I need a new approach for monitoring!
Can you do a huge favor for me, and keep note of any times you have difficulty over the next day or so, for additional times for me to look at while I track this down if it happens again in the meantime?
thank you again!
