The Cult of the Amateur
...so. The Colbert Report just interviewed the snobbiest snob I have ever seen, declaring that it's not art unless you're getting paid, and the Intertubes are worse than the Nazis because It's Destroying Our Culture!!!!!!one

And I stared, appalled.

And then sat back and smirked. I can imagine Blogistan's response to this. It will be glorious.

In other news, I must have Jon Stewart's babies immediately.

..I'm just kind of waiting with bated breath for the outcome of the youtube suit.

Not even the outcome, just Stephen's testimony. :D

..and it's wrong that both Republican candidates came off well (ok, McCain came off senile and Huckabee came off goofy, but for once they didn't sound *evil*.)

Actually, I know several art historians who would argue that it isn't art if you are in it solely for patronage and money. LOL

And I would totally agree. It being almost impossible to tell whether there is indeed any shred of ars gratia artis lurking in a creator's soul, I'd give a lot of benefit of the doubt. But a big LOL to this guy.

(And, in the "How can he say this with a straight face?" stakes, he talked about how the traditional media is better than blogs because many bloggers are in the pay of large corporations. Good thing I'd long since slotted him into the Totally Deranged category, or I might have been pissed at the stupidity.)

I was really kind of disappointed that Stephen didn't go off about the evil liberal media at that point.
