Thread of that insidious Yukito-bashing L-chan and co are so fond of.
There is nothing interesting about him.
That's just willful ignoring of what's actually there. Even if you find happy, cheerful people utterly boring and undeserving of attention, there's still Yukito's dual nature. It's even touched on, and yes, he feels pain over it! And even if he's past the worst, it's far from over for him.
And think about this: If he's so much nothing, then how can fanfiction do anything with him?
Especially if Yue's power is so weak. Here's an idea--stop perpetuating a disguise you don't need anymore! Maybe that would help.
Evidence that she wasn't watching/reading the same series as the rest of us? Yue stayed as Yukito because it used less power! It's fucking explicitly stated right after the Judgment! And do you really think that Yue could just replace Yukito in everyday life? Sakura had enough problems hiding her living plush toy in her room; think how much worse it would be if she also had to hide a winged adult humanoid. Not to mention everyone wondering just where Yukito disappeared to. Or everyone who knew where he disappeared to, suddenly finding their cheerful, friendly Yukito replaced by distant, repressed, ever-gloomy Yue.
For someone who seems to pride herself on her intelligent critical reading, she really doesn't seem to think this through beyond "must get rid of Yukito and come up with some reason besides 'I hate him'".
(Although I think there should have been a trigger for the Yukito disguise to be discontinued once Yue woke for the Judgment, but that's a whole other topic.)
No, let's go there. Starting with, what would it say about Clow if he created a sapient being for the sole purpose of unknowingly hiding Yue only to forcibly murder him once he stopped being useful? That is what you're talking about, killing off a sapient being with feelings, desires and fears of his own. Probably against his will, too, since this is apparently an automatic trigger that Yukito has no choice about. But Yukito is subjectively bland, so who cares if you propose killing him and couch it in prettier terms.

5:17 pm - Return of the Cal-moron
|
My theory is panning out: That people who like het-couples in CCS are pranksters. We prefer 'clever' (Sonomi-Fujitaka) over 'moist' (Yuki-Sue).
1. Het in CCS isn't Sonomi/Fujitaka, it's Sakura/Syaoran and Eriol/Tomoyo. And it's more mainstream than the Mississippi River. But that's okay, live in your little oppressed-by-teh-ghey fantasyland if that makes you feel better.
2. Labels don't mean anything by themselves. Your pet pairings are no more clever than your favorite whipping boy is "moist" (which, I suppose, means you disapprove of his compassion, emotional and existential turmoil, and ultimate resilience). But again, pat yourself on the back for your superiority in choosing "cleverness". It must be easier than dealing with the actual issues the characters face.
3. Guess what, one of those Yuki-Sue worshippers got prankster on that quiz! Fit that into your theory, Mr. Clever!
4. The quiz is quite wrong; I am not a prankster, as anyone here can tell. That is trolling the wank, which is Not Done.

1:07 am - cross-posted from my LJ
|
A cat was just yowling outside my door. It was an unfamiliar cat, it sounded very upset, it looked like it had been in a fight, and when it walked away, it was limping.
I don't know if it's a stray or a new neighborhood cat, how it got injured, or how badly injured it is. So, I'm not sure what to do. Especially since it's 1 am, and by the time any place is open, the cat will be long gone.
Advice, please? Should I call the Humane Society or some civic service to look into the matter? Should I wait to see if the cat turns up hurt again? Just ignore it?

8:14 pm - HP's answer to LadySybilla?
|
You all remember LadySybilla's belief that all fiction is part of a collective unconsciousness, right? Well, I found someone who believes something very much like that, only applied to HP fandom.
Meet MoonJewels, or rather quotes from her now-deleted posts. She hates HP, because JKR got it wrong. She knows that it's wrong, because she had dreams about Hogwarts and such before the books were published, and "the frist 4 books where right on in my places but the 5th was wrong". ...Yeah.
Next page has a discussion about the possibility that she's psychic or just very deluded. Watch her improperly use skepticism as an insult against everyone who thinks she's making it up, no matter what their reasons.
Also, bonus fail from another commenter: When he [Ron] hooked with Lavender, was because he was desperate, like any teenager would be. Harry had already got a girlfriend, Hermione had been with Krum, Ginny is a ****, and he is single.
"Sibling" isn't an insult or a four-letter word, and somehow I'd guess that has more to do with his not hooking up with her than her supposed promiscuity.

8:54 pm - question
|
Should I post the Binghamton shooting to unfunnybusiness, or confine my seething to my own journal(s)?
I want to rant at people who will reply, get all my angry thoughts about it spilling out for others to dissect. But it's strange doing it in person with my parents, and nobody's replied in my journal yet.

When I went to the supermarket today, I found that the car I had parked next to had three cats in it, clustered around the cracked-open window and meowing when I stared at them. It was an odd mix of adorable and disgusting, because awwww kitties! and wtf are they doing left alone in a car!?
New fandom stuff: Ever find yourself liking a character despite him having a lot of character traits that you hate? That's Zelos from Tales of Symphonia for me. I really don't like playboy types, but Zelos is just so lovable somehow (and he gets hit over the head for it by Sheena). I also still find it funny when he's the butt of comedic abuse, like Genis's Wind Blade or the flying kendama.
Old fandom stuff: I'm really starting to hate Touya/Kaho, because it comes in so many forms that I hate. Yet, it's the pairing that I have the easiest time picking music for (though it's often negative), and it's what I have a prompt for (based on a song, specifically this one).

It's always bothered me when people say "What global warming? We have snow on the ground in X southern area!" because I know that snow in one area doesn't mean squat.
Today, I learned that snow in southern states is probably caused by global warming.
It's all about the Jet Stream. It takes cold low pressure systems from Alaska east and, if the stream meanders far enough, south as well. With the added energy in the atmosphere from greenhouse gases trapping radiation, the Jet Stream meanders farther south and is more likely to have enough energy to transport the cold air that far south.
So, next time some global-warming doubter cites the snow in Texas, tell them that that snow is a sign of global warming

Forget what I said in my last post. Though I don't hate Celia, thanks to all the bashers; instead, I pity her and hope she'll redeem herself.
Speaking of the bashers, it's "funny" how they forget that Celia did provide support for Haley in the battle, including support that got some of the rogues killed (the covering fog when Haley was going up the stairs). And despite her "betray my principles" line (which I wish didn't exist, she seemed pretty determined to help Haley before Roy maybe-talked her out of it), she doesn't mind Haley killing the rogues seconds later.
The deal hurts, but I'm hoping that Celia believes that a. the younger rogues being rezzed aren't as bad as the people Haley grew up with, and the bad ones are a necessary evil to spare the ones who might end up as good people; and b. Haley hasn't stolen so much that the Grubwiggler theft can't cover all the back-dues (and they won't need the Grubwiggler money anymore because Roy's been rezzed).
Here's to hoping that the next (few) strips help Celia and Haley out more than 621 did.

5:05 am - *is smug*
|
Guess who's feeling vindicated? Hyatt, that's who!
I don't think anyone called the deal that Hank and Celia struck, and it's better than most predictions. Hope for the future: To further increase the Guild's rep, they will start funding a charity to free their imprisoned leader, Ian Starshine, and all of Haley's Guild dues go into that fund.
Also, gotta love the last three panels. Belkar's smile really is scary...
