CCS fandom sucks
I recently joined a CCS forum (mostly in order to see the threads, because only members can), and I got drawn into participating.

It. Sucks. I've found better conversation at an FF.net forum. At fucking FANFICTION DOT NET. Everyone there is all about loving S+S and E+T and hating non-traditional pairings especially Eriol/Kaho and rarely talking about anything besides pairings and/or Sakura's costumes.

On the other hand, it does seem to be a better sample of the fandom-at-large than LJ or my usual Pit forum, which is the only real reason not to give it up.

Question: Should I start a thread, asking why the majority of members say that E/K is their least favorite pairing? It's not trolling; I really do want to know why, to see if it has any basis to it. Because I suspect that it doesn't, or it has a false basis (like "Kaho is a pedophile").

I agree that it's definitely not trolling.

I'm not sure you'll get the kind of answers you're looking for, though. I think you have a very rational way to look at liking or disliking characters/ships, and it works for you, but most people don't have a rational basis for that. And I don't mean it as a bad thing - I know I'm not very rational myself. I couldn't rationally explain to you why I like Indiana Jones while Han Solo gets on my nerves, for example, even though they're basically the same character. ;P Sometimes it is a gut feeling.

So, yeah, disliking it because "Kaho is a pedophile" is wrong because it's a false basis. I agree with you there. Disliking a pairing with no basis at all, though, seems perfectly fine by me. (As long as it doesn't turn into bashing. Then it's a whole different story.)

The reason I think there has to be some sort of basis is that, in a "ten questions" thread, all but maybe two people listed Eriol/Kaho as a pairing they hate. That's a lot of hate for it to have no basis.

I probably won't start the thread. The forum members seem to be allergic to discussion.

Mind if I start a random discussion with you here?

1. i say [Eriol and Tomoyo] would be rivals, just like how sakura/shaoran were in the beginning, and then later sakura/meiling and kero/spinnel

Can you think of any way to make that work canon-wise?

2. Can you have an OTP where you dislike/hate one of the characters? I've seen that, mostly with Touya/Kaho shippers who hate Kaho and one of L-chan's Yukito-bashing minions who adores Yukito/Nakuru, but I just don't get it. If I don't like a character, I don't care much about their ships, either. I have two exceptions; I'm interested in Tomoyo/Meiling, even though I don't like Tomoyo, and the other is a canon villain pairing where the characters are repulsive and the pairing sickening and it makes sense that way.

I love random discussions! \o/

1. I've been thinking about it for a while and I got nuthin'. Why would they be rivals? They don't have any conflicting goals. Sakura and Shaoran both needed to get the Cards, Meiling saw Sakura as a threat, and Kero and Spinel had that "I'm more awesome than you" thing going on. But Eriol and Tomoyo... nope, can't think of any. It doesn't help that Tomoyo doesn't seem to have any goals of her own (I like her, but I'm not going to pretend that CLAMP was any good at developing her, heh). She didn't even consider him a rival when he looked like he was another suitor for Sakura.

So, yeah, that calls for AU/OOC/both.

2. I can only think of one: Achilles/Patroclus, where I don't like Achilles but I adore Patroclus, and the dynamics are shiny. But usually I can't get interested in a pairing at all if I don't like one of the characters. I do like some canon villain pairings but I'm not sure I'd include them here, because I do like them as characters even though they're horrible *people* (like Valmont and Merteuil from Dangerous Liasons).

1. Why would they be rivals?

Probably for the same reason they get paired up; symmetry. Which someone might make up for their fanfic, but when the thread's asking about what they are in canon, not what you'd like them to be...

BTW, the first post in the "What do you think Eriol and Tomoyo's relationship is?" thread? This, minus the last paragraph in parentheses. What should I expect from someone who completely ignores refutation of their main points?

2. The villain pairing I'm thinking of (Kaine/Sophia from Zork: Nemesis, in case you're wondering), well, try picturing the characters as Umbridge Lite. Everything "redeeming" about them is an act, and they lie like crazy. And yet, their main scene suits them; they're talking about Kaine's affairs (Sophia is one of his mistresses) and how they'll live forever. It's nasty and callous and selfish, and very them.

And now for something completely different: Donna/Martha Y/N? I know they both have other love interests, and I wish them happiness with them, but I just think there's so much potential... And after the finale, it doesn't need to be romantic to be touching and heartbreaking

My tagline would be Martha/Donna: The Doctor's just a chauffeur.

Y! I'm pretty flexible when it comes to Who pairings (and Who canon as a whole, really) and I think it'd be really interesting, either romantic or platonic.

And there's always the alt!Verse if on wants to make it romantic with ignoring other love interests. :D

It would be full of kick-ass and hugs, that much is certain.
